Sensei sighed deeply again.
Genos wanted to do something to help him. Sensei had been listless recently. It could be due to the fact that there had been an absence in monster attacks recently. No one had challenged sensei as well, Sonic missing in action for some time now. Last Genos heard, sensei's self-proclaimed internal rival had gone for intensive training to gain more speed.
"Sensei, what's wrong?" Genos asked, he couldn't stand seeing his sensei this way.
"Ah Genos," Saitama-sensei said. "You will not understand." He shook his head and sighed deeply yet again. Saitama-sensei laid back down on the floor, hands clasped to his chest as he stared at the ceiling, looking utterly bored.
"Tell me sensei!" Genos begged. He would do anything to keep that look off Saitama-sensei's face.
"I feel empty inside," Saitama-sensei finally said. "Having ridiculous powers is actually… rather boring." Sensei sighed yet again. Sensei turned to look at Genos, his smile small and sad. Genos did not know what to say.
He couldn't stop the oil from falling from his eyes. It dripped downwards from the ducts that Dr Kuseno had installed near his eyes to keep them lubricated and well-oiled at all times.
"Sensei," Genos cried out, the brown substance still dripping down his face. "I'll become strong enough one day!"
"Oi Genos, are you crying?" Saitama-sensei said abruptly, lifting himself up to stare at Genos.
Genos tried to wipe the oil away but he couldn't stop them. He felt so sad for sensei. Sensei was alone, standing at the top with no one by his said. There was nothing that could fight sensei on an even scale, and that was so unbearably lonely.
"Sensei, let me stay by your side at all times!" Genos gripped Saitama-sensei's hands as the latter came closer to see what it was that was coming out from Genos' eyes.
"Don't cry Genos," Saitama-sensei said, pulling his hands away from Genos' grip to wipe the tears away from his disciple's eyes. "You're dirtying the floor!"
"I suppose things aren't that boring with you here," sensei said smirking. His smile was so bright and beautiful that Genos couldn't help but leak from his eyes yet again.
"Sensei I'll never leave you!" Genos lurched forward and hugged his sensei.
"Err. Okay," Saitama-sensei sighed. This time it wasn't heavy with sorrow or listlessness, but full of fondness and gratitude. He slowly stroked Genos' hair, running his fingers through them, and Genos felt warm and happy. He didn't think he would have such happiness after everything was taken away from him that day.
Since sensei had given him a new lease in life, he would train hard so that sensei would never feel lonely anymore. Genos would stay by sensei's side forever.
The two of them sat there a little while longer, basking in the warmth of the afternoon sun. Saitama-sensei no longer looked listless after that conversation, and Genos looked even more fueled up and determined. If anyone noticed that there were more physical contact between the two of them, coupled with blushes and side glances, no one mentioned anything.
