"Shayera? Is that you?"
"Yes. Why are you whispering?"
"Mari's in the next room. She's asleep and I don't want to wake her."
"How is she?"
"She's fine. She just came back from a mission in Gotham, so she's… Shayera, are you crying?"
"N-no…"
"Shay, what's wrong? Are you hurt?"
"It's not that, John, it's just… I love you, John Stewart, and I don't know how to stop. I miss you so much and every time I see Mari in your arms I wish I was in her place. I like Mari, and I don't want to get in the way of your happiness, but I just need you to know how I feel."
"Shayera… I don't want to be a pawn of fate. Is this because of what I saw in the future, with our son?"
"No, John, why can't you trust me when I say I love you? I always have, since the day we met, and I'm scared I always will."
"Shay… I love Mari… But sometimes I wish she was you. I love the way you say my name and I've missed you like the sun. Jesus Shay, seeing you everyday makes it hard to be faithful. But I can't just get back together with you because I've seen our son. Things need to happen in their own time…"
"It was a parallel universe, John, created by Cronos when he messed with time. In that universe, I might never have left the League."
"What do you mean, you might never have left the League? Mari is the one stopping us from being together, and while she's around, Rex can never exist?!"
"That's not what I meant! It doesn't matter if we ever get back together or not, because…"
"Because what? Shay, why are you calling me so late?"
"When I left the League, it wasn't because of pride or shame, it was because, because, John, I was pregnant."
"You were what?!"

"Mom? Why are you crying? What's wrong?"
