Songfic - You're Not Alone

Elena sighs, wondering aloud where her coworker left off to. Maybe he left early, she mutters to herself. Reno hasn't been himself lately. Maybe he's . . . Her eyes widen, remembering why he's so sullen and detached. Sighing, she pulls on her coat and locks the door, leaving a note.

It's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching for any sign
Of the ones he used to love.

50 miles away, a hand touches the stone tombstone. A red haired figure kneels, tears flowing from his eyes. A red rose falls to the engraving below. 'Skye Andréa Sukami, age 27'.

He says he's got nothing left to live for.
(He says he's got nothing left...)

Reno swallows, holding back sobs. You were the only person who kept me sane . . . The rain continues to fall, drenching his clothes but he doesn't get up. Skye, I'm so sorry . . .

And this time I think you'll know

You're not alone.
There is more to this, I know.
You can make it out.
You will live to tell.

Elena stops the car at the curb, turning off the engine and gets out. She shuts the door and slowly steps through the cemetery. Swallowing, she passes a current funeral reminding her of her father's death.

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten
Confused by the lies she's been fed.
And she's searching for no one
(But herself)

Shaking her head, Elena remembers her mother's reaction. No reason left to live. Withering away, until sickness overcame her. The sickness of death. She swallows, shuddering from the memory.

Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy
That she is here.

Her eyes wander for a moment, then catches sight of a redhead placing some kind of headband on the dark marble. No . . . not a headband. His goggles. She quickens her pace, trying to move silently.

And this time I think you'll know...

You're not alone.
There is more to this, I know.
You can make it out.
You will live to tell.

You're not alone.
There is more to this, I know.
You can make it out.

(There is more to know)

Reno hears the footsteps, but doesn't get up. He sighs heavily, brushing several pebbles from the engraved stone.Damn it . . . His hands shake uncontrollably. . . . Why her instead of me . . .?

"Reno?" Elena grips Reno's shoulder, kneeling beside him.

"I should've died, not her. . ." His voice quivers, tears falling down his face. She brushes the tears, giving him a hug. The secure glass shield inside him shatters. This time, the sobs won't stay down. Pain and anger at himself flood out in uncontrolled cries of anguish.

We're not alone.
There is more to this, I know.
You can make it out.
You will live to tell.
(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know.
You can make it out.
(Make it out)
You will live to tell.
(Live to tell)
You're not alone.
There is more to this, I know.
(And I know)
You can make it out.
You will live to tell.

" . . . What the hell have I done to deserve this . . .?"

Elena doesn't answer. She holds Reno comfortingly, leaving a kiss on his forehead. Reno . . . Things'll get better. She glances at the sky, a break in the clouds letting sunshine through the rain. They always do.

You are not alone.
You're not, you're not alone
