In the Harsh Light Of Day

Lovers, yes, partners no.
Can't even be friends.
And every time we start
It almost always ends.

We're worlds apart,
Opposites collide.
Always trying to bridge
the great divide.

Feelings hurt with
Secrets untold,
Made even worse when
The lies unfold.

You try to love me
And I do the same.
Both caught up in
This childish game.

But the blurring lines
Of love and hate,
Don't matter when
There's lust to sate.

It works for awhile
And we heave a sigh
Maybe it would work
With this last try.

But it never does as
Differences emerge
No matter how much
We converge.

Anger takes us as
Old hostility blinds.
And bitter history
Assault our minds.

Then you leave like
You always do.
Just like I turn away
From us, too.

Weeks go by, months,
Sometimes years.
Smiling masks hiding
frozen tears.

And then we meet again
By fate or chance.
Always feeling the spark
Of lust and romance.

So again we try to
Do this again.
Never learning from
Past ends.

Green meets silver
Ice challenges fire.
But nothing changes
Ignorance doesn't tire.

So we go our own ways
To play our parts.
Knowing we can't be together
And we can't be apart.

Hmm Can you tell I wrote this while I was jaded? lol I have been recently burned by love and hence this little ditty was born. I just had to let my inner pessimist come out and play which is why I came out with this bitter although crushingly realistic HPDM piece. Please Review if you like my story poem (I have no idea what to call it haha). Thanks and Happy Christmas!
