My Last Breath
By Xander O'Shana
I struggled through the darkness, trying desperately to wake up. Something was wrong though. I wasn't breathing, my heart wasn't beating.
Soft arms held me, and I could hear someone trying to hold back their tears. Annabeth? Is that you? I wanted to call out to her, but my voice wasn't working.
Hold on to me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?
There wasn't any pain, wasn't any light. I felt numb, like I was floating through water, but in all truth, I wasn't. I'm dead. I won't see her ever again.
Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light, it ends here tonight.
Silent tears were falling on my cheeks, running into my partially opened mouth, mingling with the blood on my face. No, don't cry. I'll be alright, I'm going to see Thalia, and we'll be together again soon. I promise. Why couldn't I speak? I wanted to say so many things to Annabeth, to tell her I'd be alright.
I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree
(Come find me)
I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears.
On reflex, my eyes opened, and I could just barely see. Annabeth's head was just above me, but I couldn't see her face, because it was pointed to the heavens.
"Why? Why him?"
Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one's there.
My eyes closed again, and as I fell into the darkness for the final time, I heard her crying my name, shaking me over and over again.
Say goodnight
Don't be afraid
Calling me, calling me as you fade to black.

THREE WEEKS LATER
Chiron stood behind two shrouded bodies, and Annabeth stood next to one of them, holding a torch. One of the bodies was covered in a beautiful golden shroud, decorated with bronze lightning bolts around the hem, and the other was covered in a deep blue shroud with silvery-green tridents around the hem.
"These two gave their lives, one fighting to distract the Titans, and the other fighting… to save me," Annabeth said, barely holding back tears. Then, she tilted the torch to the two shrouds, and as the smoke spiralled up to the heavens, she began crying, as did Tyson.

Up on Olympus, Zeus and Poseidon looked at each other, sadness in their eyes. They only had one child left that fit the prophecy, and he was nowhere to be found.
