Flashback

(A/N: already?! ah hell, this is my story so there!)

The lone figure in the graveyard knelt down respectfully, placing a single red rose in front of the grave. He sat on his haunches for a moment before standing and looking up at the rain sadly.

Other than himself, Hiei was supposedly alone in the whole cemetery. He stared at the grave in front of him, letting a single tear escape and land with a soft 'plink' on the grass.

He closed his lids and let memories flood before his eyes. The day they met...fighting back to back...moving into the apartment next to Yusuke's. All the while he fingered a ring on his left hand, tracing the band tenderly. He shivered in the bitter wind that ruffled his cloak and stroked through his hair with icy hands.

A flicker of ki and a hand on his shoulder told the half koorime that someone was beside him. He glanced at his side, hoping vainly that he would see a patch of bright pink uniform and a smiling youko to comfort him. Well, the person had long hair, but it was the wrong color. And his beloved would never wear black, no matter how much he coaxed that it would look good on him.

Another black teargem joined the first in the grass, and the masked person next to Hiei gave a unsettling chuckle. "It does not do to dwell on dead people, Hiei." They said in a suspicious tone. Hiei looked at his feet.

"Go away." He pleaded, but with no force behind the words.

"Losing someone you love can be very hard on people. But, I promise, you will move on..." The person said maliciously. He inched his arm around the sobbing koorime and turned him around. The two began to walk away, one eagerly, and the other by force, sensing the many energy bombs around him.

End flashback

"Whoa, wha happened to yer face, half pint?" Yusuke laughed, punching Hiei on the shoulder playfully. Hiei, in response, winced. Yusuke puzzledly watched him. "Something wrong, Hiei?"

'Half pint' had a black eye. An array of cuts and scratches marred what was visible of his pale skin, and he seemed to walk with a slight limp.
