Title: Subtlety

Characters: Ninth or Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler

Warnings: None, complete fluff

Note: The final sentence is not mine. It was in a Hallmark card I bought many years ago and never sent.

The rose he left on her pillow was cliché. He knew it. She knew it. She inhaled its rich scent, loved its pink colour. Cliché or not, she felt butterflies as she picked the flower up. Earth butterflies, not those from Thilaxia V; they had teeth and she certainly didn't want to feel that again.

The rose she held was beautiful, a small, pink bud ready to bloom into full beauty. That was how he saw her. He hoped she got the message he was trying to convey.

He loved her. It was as simple and as complicated as that.
