Chapter One: Welcome to Metropolis

It was forty degrees Celsius and climbing. The searing sun was blared down upon the city of Metropolis, roasting it as if it were an oven. The city was awake; with cars stuck in traffic, large crowds of people waiting at crossings and the schools were beginning a new day.

On George St, among the hustle and bustle of the city, was an expensive little boutique. Its windows were decorated with several colourful dresses and a selection of diamond jewellery. Inside, where two figurines, a man who sat next to the window while a young woman searched through the clothing lines.

"What about this one?" Chloe inquired, holding up a sea foam green dress.

She received no answer from Jason. He just stared out the window, eyes narrowed with a scowl on his face.

Chloe bit her lip and pulled a piece of sandy blonde hair behind her ear. "Jason," she questioned in soft voice. With still no reply, Chloe became irritated. "Oh for god's sake, Jason!"

"What?" Jason exclaimed as he snapped his head back in her direction.

"What's the matter?" she replied as she joined him at the window.

"Look," he informed her simply as he pointed to a near-by parked red Porsche. "Alexander is out to play," he smirked.

Alexander Luthor, a cousin of the highly respected Lane family; was an arrogant, manipulative and malicious young man. Now only nineteen years old, he was the CEO of LuthorCorp, an extensive billion dollar company which specialized in manufacturing firearms and had there own paramilitary division. His fiery temper had landed his ass in several situations which had earned him a colourful police record. His many felonies included assault, theft, arson, extortion, position of narcotics and armed robbery. Lucky for him, that his father played golf with the city's Chief of police.

"Ignore him, Jason. Let him do what he wants," Chloe advised placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, it's time to do what you came here to do. Help me pick out an outfit for the party," she smiled as she picked out another dress, this one a deep purple. "What about this one?"

Jason gave a short glance before looking back outside the window to where Alexander car was finally pulling away. He looked back to an irritated Chloe, who had crossed her arms.

"It's perfect, expect…"

"What? Does it make me look fat? Does it look awful?"

"No, it's just…you do know that the party is a fancy dress. Don't you?" Jason asked pulling the invitation from his jeans pocket to confirm his belief.

"Christ almighty!" she exclaimed before throwing the dress back on the clothes line and storming out of the shop, slamming the door behind her.

Jason sighed and rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Great," he muttered to himself, "it's going to be a great day!" And with that he grabbed his light jacket and walked out the door to follow Chloe.
