A/n: This is an OC character story, which follows the history of the Sarutobi clan (the clan the Third, Konohamaru and Asuma come from). May all your days be crappy, whoops, I mean happy… yeah…

Not a Morning Person

Asuma was worried. That was a fact you could easily tell by looking at him. Another fact was, he was worried about a family member. Not worried for their safety, but worried what they might do… to you, kind of worry.

And that was why he fidgeted as he stood their next to Kurenai, hoping the ground would swallow him whole.

The only people Kakashi thought could get that worried about a family member coming to see them was anyone that was related to Naruto, but that was a totally different story…

Konohamaru looked at his uncle (A/n: I am assuming Asuma is his uncle, but he could be his father…) wondering why the elder Sarutobi was struggling so much to stay in one spot (and try not to run away screaming "Bloody murder!"). Many others seem to detect this present sense of not wanting to be there, so most shut up, wondering what evil Asuma had possibly allowed to come and stay with him for a few months…

Then the Konoha gates opened, as they had been closed ever since the Sound Attack three years ago, and out stepped a girl whose dark coloured hair seemed to glimmer in the early dawn sunrise's light.

Many of the Rookie Nine gaped. Team Gai were blown away. Three of four jounin present stared at each other. Konohamaru smiled in his stupid kid-like manner.

But Asuma gulped.

She really does look like her mother…

"May I ask what you all are staring at?" the girl asked politely, dropping a travel bag at her feet. Kurenai wanted to laugh out loud. The girl, who was nearly her own height, had the same features as a woman in a picture in Asuma's apartment! Not that she had been there for very long, or very often, mind you…

"Uncle Asuma?" Konohamaru looked at the jounin for guidance. He didn't even know who the girl was, or why his uncle was expecting her.

"Ah, Asako! I hope you had a good… walk?" Asuma tried awkwardly to start some kind of conversation.

"It was a nice walk, I need the exercise… So, care to introduce me to your…friends?" The girl, Asako, sent a slight glance to the people crowed behind Asuma, who were all still looking at her as though she had three heads. Asuma nodded to the suggestion.

"Asako, this is-" and he began rambling off the names of his comrades.

Ten minutes later, however, he was still going, hoping he wasn't speaking too fast.

"And everyone this is…" Asuma paused for breathing, leaving a gap if Asako wanted to introduce herself.

"I am Asako Sarutobi, Asuma's niece!" The girls smile was genuine, but sickly sweet nonetheless.

Konohamaru stared at her.

"You're my cousin!?"

Asako sat in an empty room, looking at the things she had packed.

A small photo album, with pictures that had been long since not-forgotten, a teddy bear, her clothes, a girl for her young cousin and one for Asuma.

But no matter how she looked at the girl for her cousin, the more she did not want to give it to him.

She loathed the way she was thinking about him so much.

No, she loathed him.

A/n: I know that this is short, but I hope you liked it anyway! I didn't know what to put after the loathed bit, so I thought that would be a nice ending line. The next ones will be longer and this series should only run for about five or six chapters or so… Please review!

PS: The title comes from the fact that Asako means "morning child"!
