Its 3 in the morning I have been in this humid heat for more than a week now, my room is small and the walls are plain and lifeless I can here next door to easily . I'm cut off from my usual life style of freezing snow, doc magoos food- his favourite burger and chips special with a large milkshake. and next to Lukas my worst nightmare! we have never got on before and I don't think we ever will he has a new girlfriend now I really think there in love they cant keep there hands off each over . He was the one who asked me to come here saying that the place was swamped, well it is but he doesn't seem to be doing much to help. I came to Africa because there wasn't that much going for me in Chicago my grandmother just died we were really close I opened up to her more than I would to anyone that was until I met Abby I waited ages for my chance with her but Luka had got to her first I had to suffer for over a year watching them. When they did break up we finally got together and I was so happy she was too but things got in between us like her mother maggie and her little brother Eric who recently went missing , understandable though he was bi-polar as well as maggie but Abby was safe from the disease. When i was around anyway but i wasn't what would she do now he was gone. He had left on some training course when Eric went missing and found her fighting not to turn back to drinking she looked awful because he wasn't there to stop her she even new that he was coming back then but she new he wouldn't this time.
"can you shut up I have to give at least 200 flu injections tomorrow and I need my sleep" carter yelled giving a small but loud thump on the wall.
"Sorry" Luka shouted back but carried on giggling with his so called girlfriend.
Carter had been trying to sleep for over 2 hours now but there were to many thoughts running through his head plus next door still weren't helping things speed along.
"Dr. Carter its 6am"a young African women said shaking him lightly.
No response.
"Dr. carter" she repeated.
"what?, oh up" Carter said sleepily.
She placed a small cardboard box at the end of his bed full of small syringes that didn't contain half of what was needed for a full flu injection.
"injection 178"Carter said to himself.
"will it hurt, do I have to have an injection I hate them" The African kid said shaking has he sat down on the wooden chair which was way to big for him so carter had to lift him up.
"its only a little prick I promise" Carter said with is usual voice when he is talking to kids.
"there we go" carter finished lifting the child of the chair.
The day was long, the camp was running out of food and water and he was sweating so much he thought he was going to pass out. The whole day the only people he had to talk to was the children and they weren't exactly talkative. He missed the feeling of ticking off patients on charts and using the squeegy to wipe the board, he missed listening to Susan and jing mai gossip about everyone and Kerry weaver shaking her crutch and yelling at everyone.
Carter rested his head on the hard pillow in fact it wasn't even a pillow it was a fine piece of cloth. There was a knock at the door.
"Hey"
"what are you doing here" carter said amazed staring at the figure in front of him.
It was Abby.
