Rainstorm

Inspired by the downpour we had today and a conversation with a friend.

The clock reads three twenty six.

Rain beats on the window above our bed.

Instead of rolling over and falling asleep again I get up.

I tiptoe out of bed and across the soft carpet, careful not to disturb Malik, who's still asleep.

Eyes wide I stop when I reach the sliding glass door that leads out onto a small deck. I just stand for a moment in silence watching the rain.

With a quick grin I slide the pin out of the doorframe and twist the knob up. I slide open the door and step out into the downpour.

After I close the door I just stand for a moment, letting the rain soak through my thin t-shirt and pajama pants.

I take a few more steps away from the house. I tilt my head skywards with my eyes closed and I begin to spin.

Spinning and smiling as I start to feel the rain on my scalp through my thick hair.

It twirls around my in wet clumps and I feel so free.

I love rain.

I never thought rain was sad, to me it's a sign of new beginnings and of cleansing.

It rained the day I met Bakura.

It rained the day I woke up after the battle city tournament.

It rained the day Malik kissed me.

The day dad came home early for my birthday.

When I graduated high school.

The day I realized how beautiful my life is.

All those sweet memories and thousands more happened when it rained.

I love rain.

I start dancing. No real rhythm or sense to it but still I dance, turning and twisting in the rain.

I let out a giggle.

A laugh.

A cry of joy.

And I dance.

Every millimeter of me is soaked but still I dance.

And smile.

"Ryou?"

I turn to the confused voice of Malik and smile.

"Yes?"

"Why are you dancing in the rain in the middle of the night…?"

I just laugh and continue.

"You should come in, you'll get sick."

"Nope." I say carelessly.

"But you're soaked!"

"So?" I finally stop and look at him. "I like being soaked."

Malik shook his head and smiled. "You never cease to amaze me." he says as he leans against the doorframe.

I have an idea; I leap forward and pull him out by an arm into the rain. He shivers once.

"It's nice really." I say, "C'mon, dance with me."

He gets a slightly puzzled look, made all the more cute by the fact his hair is hanging limply in his eyes, so I place our arms around each other and begin to dance.

It's a slow dance this time, and I rest my head against his chest, but it's still a dance of celebration.

"You're right, this is nice." Malik admits after a few minutes.

"See?"

"Yeah."

And so we dance.

In the middle of the night, in the pouring rain, in our pajamas, we dance as only lovers can.

And yes, I gave Ryou my personal view on rainstorms and yes I do dance in the rain, just not usually at three am.

Oh, I have to brag, it's exactly 500 words (I'm trusting the word count on Word) ignoring beginning and endnotes (everything in between the _*_*_ only in other words). It's a thing of mine I like to do. It's an extra challenge. I'll stop babbling now.
