Mission: Midnight
Huey's pov
Quiet.
Completely still and quiet.
The only time this event occurs in the manor is midnight.
I love midnight.
The night seems to shine a little brighter, the stars smile down at you, happiness dances through your body, but most of all, silence.
Silence is a treasure I never had on the houseboat.
There was always another wave, seagull, or boat noise.
I didn't really know what silence meant until I discovered it when I woke up randomly, close to midnight and went to go grab a snack.
I like to just stare outside, or even sit outside at midnight.
It's too beautiful not to.
My sleep schedule stays on track as long as I take a nap during the day.
It's worth it though to see the world at midnight.
Midnight is almost here, so I sneak out of bed and downstairs.
There's this living room place with a bench seat that I love watching midnight from inside.
I go and sit at the bench seat and check my watch.
It's 11:59.
I will know exactly when midnight occurs though.
I even like to stay some of the midnight hour in this room just enjoying silence.
Things glow with beauty.
I love it.
I sigh contently and watch out the window for at least 15 minutes past midnight.
"Huey?" I randomly hear.
I whip around.
"Dewey? What are you doing here?" I ask him.
"I don't know." Dewey shrugs.
"Come over here and join me." I offer.
It's kinda my job as a big brother, even if it's by a few seconds, minutes, hours or whatever.
Dewey slowly makes his way over here.
He sits down fairly close to me and immediately lays his head on my shoulder.
"Not wasting time, are we?" I joke.
When I get no response, I look down to see what has happened.
Dewey is already falling asleep.
"Why are you up?" I ask him.
"I don't wanna sound like a baby." Dewey tells me.
"Nightmare?" I suggest.
"Yeah." He replies simply.
I wrap one arm around him and Dewey attaches himself to me.
This isn't normal for Dewey.
Definitely Louie, but never Dewey.
"Are you and Louie swapping places and playing jokes on us again?" I tease.
"No. I just need my big brother." Dewey responds.
I think about telling him that we are triplets or something, but I hold myself back.
Dewey just clings tightly for a bit before loosening his grip a little.
I look down.
He's asleep.
This was a bit odd.
Then again, I should learn to get used to weird things happening in the manor.
When Dewey is calm for once, he is actually pretty cute.
I smile and ponder what to do with him.
I decide Dewey needs to go back to his room.
I lift him into my arms and carry him back to his bed.
Once I lay him down, I go back to my bed and wait for the next midnight.
I drag through another day of Dewey and Louie's ridiculous pranks that Webby tries, and miserably fails to assist them in.
It's constant noise and chaos.
Dewey seems normal though despite last night.
I'm still worried about him.
Finally, the second best sight and sound happens.
Everyone is going to bed!
I of course make a detour to my favorite room to watch midnight happen.
"Hey." I hear and I startle.
"What are you doing here, Dewey?" I sigh in relief seeing it's him.
"I don't know. I just started walking and I got here." He shrugs.
"What about Louie? He hates being left alone." I point out.
"He won't notice. Who would have thought him out of everybody would hate being along?!" Dewey laughs.
"Us. No one else. I hate that cool facade he puts on." I say.
"Same here." Dewey smiles.
I pat the seat beside me and Dewey joins me on the bench seat.
"Midnight. It's my favorite time in the world." I stare out the window.
"Why?" Dewey questions.
"First off, listen." I tell him.
Dewey listens and makes a confused expression.
"Silence?" Dewey guesses.
"Exactly. Everything is quiet and still. Now watch. Midnight should occur any moment." I turn his head towards the window for him.
My eyes glisten as my favorite moment of the day occurs.
It's like seeing a glimpse of Heaven.
Then, it all sparkles and fades.
Silence for a few precious moments more.
"Woah." Dewey breaths.
"I told you midnight was amazing." I blush.
"You weren't lying." Dewey laughs slightly.
"You came here for a reason. Why?" I ask him.
"I don't know. I told you, I was kinda just led here." Dewey shrugs.
"Well, I'm glad. We never get to spend time together that's not arguing." I grin.
"Yeah. I'm surprised you let me share midnight with you tonight." Dewey exclaims.
"I don't exactly own midnight or anything." I joke.
Dewey smiles and looks down at his hands.
"You aren't ok, are you?" I go ahead and ask.
"I honestly don't know anymore. I was trying to find you. I guess I was just led to actually succeed in finding you." Dewey half smiles.
"Why me? We have had an ongoing fight for years. Even unspoken fights still exist." I shrug.
"I don't care, Huey. I just wanna be with you. I don't wanna fight anymore. The difference between hanging out with you or Louie is HUGE! While I love hanging out with Louie, sometimes I need to just be around you." Dewey admits.
"Really? I've been a horrible brother." I sigh.
"It takes two to fight." Dewey grins.
He moves closer and leans his head on my shoulder.
"What happened last night then?" I wonder aloud.
"What? Nothing happened last night." Dewey frowns.
"Yeah. You came in here before." I point out.
"Maybe your imagination. I've never seen this room." Dewey suggests.
"Maybe." I say.
We sit there for a while.
Neither of us says anything.
"So...wanna talk about anything?" I try and make conversation.
"I'm good." Dewey replies.
Maybe that was all that needed to be said.
Maybe I don't have midnight to myself anymore.
The important thing is, midnight has brought me closer to my brother.
I look down at him and how he attempts to take in the whole sky.
I smile and say,
"Tomorrow, I wanna show you midnight from a different point. Meet me on the roof?"
A/N
Who doesn't need some Huey and Dewey fluff sometimes? There's almost none of it here, so I thought I would write some. Midnight is my favorite time, so I wanted to write about it a little. I'm also doing a poll right now, so if y'all wanna go vote, that would be awesome. Please go review! Thanks for reading!
