It was a typical day for Mary Camden at school. She was always getting detentions for something. She was known as the rebel.
One thing she never expected to get detention for was hugging her boyfriend, Robbie Palmer after school.
Mary gave Robbie a casual hug and a kiss on the cheek and said "I'll call you." She never expected to get detention for it.
"That's two hour detention, no physical contact in school," said Mary's teacher.
Mary reluctantly went to detention. Not only did they give Mary a detention, but they sent a note home to her parents.
"Eric, check this out," said Annie.
"What is it hon?" asked Eric.
"Mary got a detention for hugging Robbie Palmer in school. Apparently there is a no touching rule in school. Including
casual hugs and hi 5s, did I mention they also ban the game of tag because it involves touching?" asked Annie.
"That's insane," said Eric.
"I know, I mean I can understand not allowing teachers to touch the students, due to what happened with Coach Cooper,
but this is going to the extreme," said Annie.
"Well we'll go in and talk to the principal," said Eric.
Meanwhile Mary was talking to her friend Corey on the phone.
"Hi Mary! I heard you got detention again, what for this time?" asked Corey.
"Hugging my boyfriend," said Mary.
"You're joking right?" asked Corey.
"No I'm serious. My parents said they'll back me up on it though so I'm not worried," said Mary.
Mary went to school the next day and hugged Corey and Robbie. She got two more detentions.
"I'm not serving. I refuse to comply with this stupid rule of no hugging. I mean it's like telling us not to
breathe," said Mary.
"If you refuse to comply with school policy than you're suspended for 3 days," said the Principal.
Mary took the suspension with her parents on her side.
"Hug all you want Mary, we'll back you up," said Eric. Annie nodded. Mary gave all her brothers and sisters a hug.
