Author's Notes: Well…. Feedback always appreciated! g This was a nice break from my rather intense MfU fic I'm working on right now. This "fabble" challenge came up on Channel F to write about stars and since I have one very fond memory of being up in Northern Wisconsin back in something like second grade, lying on the dock in the pitch black night and watching the incredible meteor shower above… I couldn't resist.
I'm not sure why I'm out here with him instead of the lovely Emma Larson. It could just as well be her sitting at my side, leaning back against the car seat, staring up at the night sky from the rented convertible.
I turn my head slightly and watch him. Hundreds of stars streak across the sky and I can see them reflected in his eyes. His lips are parted in awe. My chest aches as I catch sight of the bandages covering his left shoulder. The stray bullet had been far too close this time.
I close my eyes momentarily and breath deeply, attempting to ease the ache. A light touch on my arm startles me. He stares at me in silent question, his concern blocking his earlier enjoyment of the meteor shower. I reach out to him, cupping his cheek in one hand, stroking the corner of his lips with my thumb.
"Don't leave," I murmur. He watches me, bemused. I lean in closer, hesitantly pressing my lips to his, hoping that I might better communicate without words.
He seems surprised for a long moment, but then I feel him pull me closer. He parts his lips and trails his tongue between mine, I follow it back into his mouth.
We make love under the stars for the first time, familiarizing ourselves with the other's body.
When I look at him in the light of the falling stars, I remember why it is always him I return to.
