"Explanations"

Lewis was someone who believed that everything could be explained. Nothing just happened on its own, and with a bit of thinking, there could be a rational explanation for it. And he was an inventor, of course he believed this. It was basically the principal of life that nothing worked – nothing happened by itself.
Even the amazing, seemingly impossible journey he had taken to the future and back just weeks ago could be formulated by numbers and blueprints. All the events that had taken place during that fateful day-and-a-half still made an odd amount of sense to him. Even now, sitting at the desk in his new room, in his new home with new parents – though it all seemed too good to be true – could all be explained.
It was late. The glowing green umbers of the digital clock he's developed told him so. It was a school night, too. He knew he should be in bed, but being at his desk was more comfortable somehow. Even if he wasn't working on any new projects or inventions, writing in his notebooks, or brainstorming, sitting in his workspace made him feel better. Lewis knew if he tried to lie down, it would only give his mind a chance to wander onto other things.
Even though Lewis wanted to believe that everything in the world could be explained… it was that day he was taken to the future that had proved him wrong. The philosophy had never failed him before, and hadn't managed to fail him again since then, but the fact that it had failed once meant that it could fail again, and most definitely would.
And it was all thanks to a certain raven-haired, brown-eyed boy who just happened to be his son.
His future son. A being he'd one day help bring into this world with his own blood. Out of all relations, and he was to be his son. He could've been his cousin! Or no relation at all! Or why couldn't such a boy exist in this time?
The blonde sighed.
And nothing could ever explain the ache inside of him as he knew those wishes could never come to be.
He had to make the right decisions, right?
