A Change in Her

AN: Much thanks to RoxanneJ for editing this for me.
"Brain tumor. It's...usually benign."
I look at my best friend, my heart aching for her clear distress, even as she explains to us what's going on. She mentions that they're prepping Booth for surgery, and Hodgins comments on how quickly everything's happening. Her voice is tight as she says that the doctors don't want to take any chances.
"Go."
The words escape me before I even think them, but I know they're right.
"He shouldn't be alone before he goes in there, Brennan."
I can see a weak wave of relief cross her face, before she speaks again.
"I just want all of you to know..."
She swallows hard, and her next words are choked out, ending on a break.
"...statistically, he should be fine."
I can't hold back after a few moments, and I move to take her in my arms. She quickly latches onto me,
slightly burrowing into my shoulder. She's shaking, and I can only recall one other time when she's been this fragile, and it involved the same man. I can hear a slight gasp of breath before she whispers in my ear.
"I caught up, Ange. And now I'm worried it's too late."
I tighten my grip, but moments later, she pulls away.
"This isn't about me."
With that, she's turned and headed back down the hall she came from. I sigh heavily, trying to ease the tightness in my own throat as I worry for my friend who just found reality.
Reviews are wonderful and will earn you a Booth shaped cookie.
