When the news of their deaths reached the Prentice family, they were heart broken. They had already nearly lost each other in what everyone called "the invasion of the ghosts."

They had been lucky to escape with their lives, and Astrid knew that. They had been saved with a miracle, the monsters had been sucked away by some force from the far away city of London, the family had been over joyed.

Astrid's mother, Janice, had sobbed with relief that none of them had been taken. Her brother, Pete had set off a batch of fire works, which their Mother had for once let slide.

But in the midst of their celebration, Astrid had had the uneasy feeling that something was still wrong.

Very wrong.

Then, the next day, reports of the deaths came out.

Many people had been taken by those silver men to be "converted." As they had said in their robotic voices over and over. Hundreds of thousands had been killed.

And then, on the telly, their names had been called out. It had been in a long list, and if Astrid's sharp ears hadn't been listening carefully, they might have missed it.

At first, when she had called out in a panicked voice to her Mother what she had heard, Janice Prentice had thought there must have been some mistake.

After all, Tyler was a common last name.

But after a few phone calls to their friends in London, they discovered that indeed, their relatives had been killed by those silver men.

And everything had changed. Her family, who had been so overjoyed that the human race had escaped another close brush with some type of strange monsters, had lost all their happiness in a heart beat.

Janice's sister and niece had died. And there was nothing they could do about it.

But while her family started to mourn their loss, Astrid was feeling strange.

People thought that she just couldn't accept that her cousin had died, and she was in a state of denial.

But they were wrong, Astrid was much smarter than that. She wasn't in a state of denial.

Astrid had a feeling, as she looked out of her old bedroom's window, at the Rose bush below, that her cousin wasn't dead.

Astrid had a feeling that she was alive, in some strange way.

She couldn't explain it, but she couldn't feel sad, because she knew deep down there wasn't a reason to feel that emotion.

Somehow, they must have survived. They must have!

Because Astrid knew her cousin very well, she was a fighter.

She had always been a bit odd, ever since that first incident in London when the manikins had come to life. Her cousin had just been well, different when they had met up after words. She had had a light about her, like she had seen extraordinary things.

And Astrid had a feeling that it had been that light that might have made her survive.

The eighteen year old girl stopped looking out the window. She got up, put her coat on and walked towards the door to her bedroom.

Astrid Prentice was going to find out what had happened to her cousin, and where she could be now.

Rose Tyler had survived, she was sure of it.
