(A.N. Okay, so this is my very first attempt at something vaguely fanfiction-esque. I figured, 'Hey, Matt-chan's done one, so I might as well try.' Inspired by a conversation Matt-chan and I had. It's humorous, I suppose. Spoilers for pretty much the whole thing, who knows what I might say, oh and YuGiOh references. By the way, I know that Death Note says everyone goes to Mu, but I thought, well, they only did that so there's no chance of them being reincarnated or something. So, who says they can't be aware there and talk and stuff?)
"You know, sometimes I wonder what would have happened if we'd switched places during the whole 'kidnap-the-Takada' plan. Would we have lived?" Matt said.
"No. For one, Lidner wouldn't have trusted you enough to let Takada out of her sight," Mello replied lazily to the redhead.
"Well, you don't know that. She might've--"
"No. You know she wouldn't trust anyone but me or Near in that situation. Hell, she's never even met you. Also, you don't have a motorcycle." The blond smirked, or whatever the equivalent of smirking was in nothingness.
"What does that have to do with anything? I have a cool car. Plus, nobody knows my name, so I wouldn't have gotten myself killed. Beat that." Matt smiled, thinking he had finally won an argument for once.
"It was your day to die anyway. You'd have died no matter what you did. Did you really think you could beat me this time?"
"First time for everything," the gamer said happily.
"Some things are impossible, though. For example: Kira winning; you going a year without video games; Yugi losing a freaking card game."
"Actually, he lost like three times. One against Kaiba, one in the fourth season, and one at the end." Ha! He'll never win now! I know everything there is to know about anime and video games!
"...No, he gave up, was possessed by an evil spirit, and the last one didn't count because he was playing against himself," Mello said while rolling his eyes.
"How do you know these things?! Wait, why are we talking about Yu-Gi-Oh? Isn't that like breaking the fourth wall or something?"
"Ah, it doesn't matter. Breaking the fourth wall is like dividing by zero. Everybody does it, but there's no real consequence."
Just then, a giant rip formed in the space-time-continuum and this fanfiction ended.
