Gods.

That was the first word Rei thought.

'Gods.'

And then:

GODSHELPMEPLEASENO-

Her adoptive parents, not understanding a word she had said, dragged her away from her native land. Rei had yet to forgive them for that.

And now, she was here.

'Here' actually couldn't be applied to wherever Rei was. 'Here' meant that she was somewhere. As the red fog swirled around her, Rei began to gather up a feeling of not being anywhere. The fog had a consistency of water, but as Rei looked up and down, there was no sign that she was in water; light was not coming in from above and the fog didn't get darker under her feet. If she was even standing at felt like standing, Rei mused, except her body was tense, as if expecting a fight. This was a new revelation, and so, unknowingly, she relaxed at the fact that there was some knowledge in her possession.

Immediately she could tell that this was a mistake.

There was no sign of whatever malevolent being that had brought her here, or a feeling on being watched; in fact Rei somehow knew she was alone. She was not afraid. Most of her senses felt dull, as if she was in a coma of sorts. But Rei knew that she couldn't be in a coma.

Something in the red fog hissed.

Sounding like a modified bomb of sorts, the hissing continued for about 30 seconds longer before slowing to a stop.

Rei began to freeze up, thinking What the- and then, Oh no. In Rei's experience, when it got silent, that meant that someone was around. Confirming her fears, the fog began to clear away a circle. Rei's eyes followed the fog as it cleared the ground - yes, it was ground, or sand, whatever - Rei's eyes were looking straight ahead, and she cursed herself for not seeing it sooner.

Jamie Valdez stood in front of her. His irises red, teeth bright white and cheeks flushed, he was either extremely good-looking or the scariest thing you had ever seen in your life.

Rei made herself speak. "Jamie Valdez," she said scornfully. "I see you're not on great terms with dear old Dad."

Jamie smirked. "The Heroes of Olympus are dead."

Rei took a deep breath, stepping back. "What do you-"

Jamie began to walk forward.

"Guess who's next?"

And really, it was the smile, the happy, happy smile of someone that knew their insanity that killed Rei. That and the fact that she was about to die.
