The rain had been persistent all day. Persistent wasn't light romantic
beads of water like the movies. No it was huge droplets bashing of the side
of my face, coinciding with the wind, icily cursing over me and overall
freezing every part of my body.
The dark clouds looming overhead suiting my dismal temperament.
I generally do anything I can to escape the ER. So here I am now, sitting on the world's hardest bench, utterly freezing, soaked to the bone just trying to avoid the little pleasures that Cook County General has to offer. These would include burn victims, G.S.W's and the occasional kid who has got their hand stuck up a pigs ass trying to retrieve money from their moneybox.
Yup, day in day out I live for the few minutes I can come out to the ambulance bay or head up onto the roof and just be alone with a much needed cigarette.
I look upon my cigarettes as an incentive rather than my weakness. They are what keep me going. Well I tell myself that every New Year when I come across then idea of quitting.
On my breaks in whatever secluded spot I have chosen to poise myself in I retreat into Abby world, where albeit is sometimes are very amusing place to be I really shouldn't be left there with my own thoughts for great lengths of time.
Ordinarily I'm not in Abby world for long amounts of time. Usually I'm interrupted by approaching sirens, doctors needing help with said kid with hand up pigs rear end or basically any other little distractions that come my way, All at once I am pulled out from my world back to reality. Reality being overcrowded hallways full of the sick, dying and sometimes bizarre patients of the ER.
"Abby, M.V.A, E.T.A, 1 minute.
Malik looks me up and down.
"You might wanna go and dry of first."
"Thanks Malik."
Unenthusiastically I stamp my cigarette to the ground and stand up shivering ever so slightly. The shrill ring of an ambulance siren barely audible somewhere in the background but still approaching.
"Here we go again."
I take one last look at the cigarette butt lying smoldering on the ground and stride briskly to the ER.
Only another 2 and a half hours I think to myself.
"Hey, Carter what we got?"

Hey remember me? Well that was just something a little different than whet I usually write. I hope you enjoyed it. Will update my other stories soon. Promise. PLEASE review! Thanks.
Luv Aisling.
