Riley picked up a stick off the ground, and poked it deep into the fire. Sparks flew high into the air, and he jumped back, grinning. It was a perfect night for a bonfire.

There was a frost forming on the ground, but the weather was still warm enough to keep the snow away. He watched the flames for a few minutes, enjoying the warmth and the colours produced by the fire.

Riley could see his friends through the flames, standing hand in hand. He coughed a little as the sudden gust of wind blew smoke in his direction. It burned his throat, and his eyes watered a little.

"Riley, do you want a marshmallow?" Abigail asked him, leaving Ben's side. She handed him the bag of marshmallows, popping one into her mouth.

"Thanks," he told her, impaling his marshmallow on the stick. He stood there, and roasted it over the fire, until it was blackened. It was perfect that way. Riley slowly ate the charred remains off the end of his stick. Sugary heaven.

Ben cleared his throat, before speaking up.

"Today is November fifth."

Riley nodded, looking at his friend. "Yeah, Ben. It is." He smirked at Ben, wondering where this conversation was going.

"This day, in history was the gunpowder plot. It's Guy Fawkes Night." Ben informed them, before starting to explain in great detail the events that took place hundreds of years ago.

Riley rolled his eyes, as he stole a glance at Abigail. She was staring at the fire, listening to Ben.

As Ben recounted the story of british politics, Riley realized where he'd heard the story before. He'd seen the film "V for Vendetta," when it came out. Of course, he'd been more interested in Natalie Portman then the historical aspect of the film.

They stayed outside for another hour, before extinguishing the fire. Ben gathered the remaining hotdogs and marshmallows, and brought them back into the kitchen.
