Disclaimer: I don't own Fire Emblem.
Lucius knew what was coming. He could see the spear going for his side like it was in slow motion. His reflexes just weren't working with him. As he saw it puncture the skin, a flare of pain shot through his body and he felt the thick, warm liquid rush out of his body. He knew it would be over before long. Even Priscilla's mend staff wouldn't save him.
He felt his knees tremble below him. He collapsed, waiting for the soldier to finish his mission. What he didn't expect to feel was muscular arms wrapping around his bloody torso. Were his eyes closed? Or has his vision already gone? No matter which, he couldn't see any more and he didn't want to. He didn't want to see this. He didn't want to see his friends crying faces. He didn't want to see Raven's disappointed eyes.
He didn't want to upset Raven anymore than he already has. Ever since Lucius and Raven met, Raven had always been Lucius' knight in shining armor. He risked his life to protect Lucius and now he wasted his time. Lucius failed him. He prayed to his Goddess that his Lord Raymond would forgive him for his untimely betrayal when he finally heard it. The soft, sweet sound of his voice in his ear. It told him everything was going to be okay. IT was telling him to relax; he was safe now. Was this really Raven's voice or was Lucius' mind making it up?
Lucius felt something move closer to his head and Raven's voice got slightly louder. Raven was really trying to comfort him. Did that mean he was in Raven's arms? That was impossible. Raven never showed emotions, especially for him.
Lucius strived for Raven's attention for months after they met but all Raven could think about was his revenge on Ostia. To say it irritated Lucius would be an understatement but Lucius stayed with him. Lucius tried to help Raven with his plans, but all he usually ended up doing was get in the way. Raven always saved him though. He never complained. Except the one time, earlier in the month when Raven tried to get Lucius to stay out of battle. At that point, Lucius took it as Raven calling him weak, but now he realized it was to prevent this fate. It didn't seem like it at the time, but it was Raven caring for him. This made Lucius feel even more guilty about getting hit now. What was left of his stomach seemed to knot and he tensed up.
Then he felt warm hands moving up and down his back. Lucius felt his body ease and he realized how cold he was. Lucius needed to stop reliving the sad parts of his life. It was almost over. He should focus on the moments in his life that made him smile the hardest.
When Lord Raymond asked him to accompany him on his journey. When Lord Raymond and Lady Priscilla reunited. The bright, cloudless nights he and Lord Raymond would spend together when they were out in the mountains. When He and Lord Raymond met for the very first time. That first meeting might not have been much to a normal person, but it was magical to Lucius. They literally bumped into each other, causing Lucius to drop all of his supplies from the market. Then his Lord Raymond took the time to help him pick them up and dust them off. He was a true gentleman and that's when Lucius knew he wanted to serve the red-haired man for as long as he was alive.
Lucius was able to feel a smile creep to his lips as he remembered the encounter. Then he heard Raven's voice whisper "good, happy thoughts". It took all of Lucius' strength to reach his arms around Raven and pull them into a tight hug. He was able to at least mouth the words "Thank you Lord Raymond. For everything."
Lucius leaned back and managed to open his eyes one last time. The last thing Lucius saw was a tear falling from Raven's cheek onto his own, scarlet stomach.
A/N: This seems kind of short to me, but I really liked the idea when it popped into my head. I hoped you liked it. :)
