Rexan ascended the cathedral stairs. The echoes of burgundy stained their coat. In the distance they thought they heard the howl of Jager Brandtford, though they knew that was impossible. Rexan had slain them earlier this evening, after finding them holding what remained of their sister. The stairs were lined with eerie statues moulded by starlight, with names too incomprehensible to voice.

Rexan reached the top of the stairs clutching the severed blade arm they had collected from another who had tried to stop them. A small child sat hunched over at the far side of the chamber. Rexan would have thought them a corpse had the empty hall not echoed the child's fearful whispering. They had clearly grown mad like the others. The child started as if they had heard Rexan's thoughts. There was something frightful about the child: why were their eyes concealed by gauze? The thing, now resembling more puppet than child began to lurch and scream. Their flesh worked desperately to hold as new bones took form. White hair consumed their body as the snapping of joints eclipsed the screams. The child was gone. In their place stood a beast bathed in moonlight, starved for blood. Rexan extended their blade and took stance.
