He was there again. He went there every time he didn't want to feel any more, which was more often than he'd care to admit. He went there so that the only thing he would feel was the pounding of the bass through his body as he danced with the rest of the bodies that ran away.
He was grinding against some sweaty body, not caring, not thinking, not feeling, when he saw her. The vision from his past that made him stand still in the middle of pit of faceless bodies to watch her.
She strode across the room with the kind of purpose that no one else in that room would ever possess and planted herself right next to him. She started rocking her body to the hard pounding beat and asked him with round questioning eyes, "What are you doing here of all places, Draco Malfoy?"
It was a good question really, who'd have thought that he would willingly go to a muggle dance club and dance with random muggles that he didn't even know?
He took time to answer her, getting back into the beat of the lyric-less song playing, "Because it's numbing, this place, these bodies, this pounding. When you're here you better lose yourself in the music, the moment because there's nothing else. Only you, the bodies around you, and the pumping of the bass."
Luna couldn't understand why anyone would want that, sure she found the rhythm pumping through her veins to be slightly intoxicating, but why didn't this man want to feel the world around him. The world outside was calling to him and he was ignoring it. She decided in that moment, looking up at the blank expression on his face, that she couldn't let him forget the rest of the world.
"Draco, follow me." she beckoned and led him out the back door. As soon as they stepped out into the alleyway the brisk air brought Draco out of his stupor.
"Lovegood, why did you bring me out here to this disgusting, rat-ridden, alley?"
She stepped up close to him so that they were almost touching, faces mere centimeters apart and whispered, "Because I could feel your soul's escaping, through this whole that's gaping in your heart. I can't bear to see that happen to you Draco. It's time to snap back to reality and see what's in front of you."
Finally she closed the distance between them and pressed their lips together. Draco just stood there shocked for a moment before he began to move his lips against hers. Suddenly it was as if a fog had been cleared from his mind and he knew he would never step foot in the club behind them again.
