She couldn't look him in the eyes anymore. Seeing the sincere love shining in their blue depths was something she just couldn't deal with. It was strange. Because she knew a lot of girls would've killed to have a guy, especially one as able and good-looking as Naruto, look at them like that. But she couldn't bear it.
He wouldn't always look at her like that. Sometimes he would just look at her like any other person. They would talk about things, laugh and joke around. She would punch him a couple of times for being rude. And then, when she would least expect it, he would turn to her and give her that look. That look of love and longing that gave her goosebumps.
She couldn't ignore him. He wouldn't let her. He made sure he was always there whenever he could be. It drove her insane. She used to be able to stand the look. But recently it gave her chills. She refused to talk about it to anyone. Refused to hint that there was even a possibility that she was attracted to Uzumaki Naruto. There was no way.
Sasuke, Uchiha Sasuke, was her first love. He was and would always remain so. He had betrayed her, betrayed Konoha, betrayed everyone – but he would always be her first love.
It had always been easy. Admitting she had feelings for him. Every other girl did. Why should she be any different?
It was only now that she was older and had a more mature take on things did she realize why it had been so easy at the time. Because it hadn't been love. It had been a silly crush. Sasuke was handsome. Sasuke was cool. All the girls loved Sasuke.
Now she knew better. Although she cared for him, she knew she could never spend her life with a man so bitter. It was then that she realized she was in love with Naruto.
She loves Naruto.
That's why she can't admit it, she had guessed desperately.
Sakura turns around and her breath hitches when she finds herself staring straight into those eyes again. He watches her, his eyes never wavering – never blinking, and she feels the shivers run down her spine.
Because this time, this time it's real.
