The Winchester brothers stood across the parking lot and watched the hotel burn, blinking against eyes that still stung and watered from too much smoke. Flames leaped into the night sky, defying the firefighters' every effort to extinguish them.
A heavy cough rattled in Dean's chest, leaving him hunched forward. A hand came down on his shoulder, squeezed.
"You okay?" Sam rasped, his own voice wrecked by the smoke.
"Yeah."
"Close call tonight."
"Yeah."
"You did good, saving those two little girls."
"Yeah. And so did you. I saw you carrying Grandma Grayhair from her room."
"So we both earned some good karma tonight."
"Let's hope," returned Dean. He watched the firefighters continue their battle, listened to the hissing and crackling as the fire fought back. He nudged their rescued duffel bags with his foot. A sudden grin lit up his face contrasting sharply with the soot darkening his face. "Never was so glad I wear clothes to bed. Or I'd be standing here naked."
"Eeeww. Stop! Now I'll ever get THAT image outta my head."
"Could be worse...it could be you standing here naked."
"Now I'm gonna puke."
