It was pouring. Pitter, patter, the drops of rain slammed against the window. The rain meant that everyone stayed inside. Within the mansion were busy people, fighting off the boredom and gloom that the rain always produced. Amidst all the hustle and bustle stood Lucas, surrounded by people, yet crushingly alone.
Lucas laid on the living room couch, watching his fellow Smashers walk past. He pondered questions that seemingly could never be answered. Like why was he sitting here? On any other day of clear skies, Lucas was talkative and social. But on the days when the clouds turned gray and the first drop of water hits the ground, the blonde found himself alone. Why? What was it about this weather that made Lucas shy away from everyone? Lucas closed his eyes and sighed.
"I…I don't like this loneliness," Lucas thought. "Then again, no one like to be alone, idiot." He was even aware that nearly everyone left the living room until he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. Lucas opened one eye. Princess Peach stood over him, a slight expression of concern on her face.
"Ah, Lucas, you're alone. Why?" Lucas sat up and surveyed the room. It was just him and the princess breaking the silence.
"I'm bored," Lucas replied. He didn't have a better excuse.
"Hmm," Peach placed a finger on her chin. "Perhaps you would like some company?"
Lucas looked at Peach. "Yes!" he wanted to scream. Instead, he shrugged his shoulders casually. He moved to the side, making room for the princess on the couch. She daintily sat on the couch, her hands folded on her lap. For a princess that wanted to spark a casual conversation, she had the aura of royalty emanate from her.
"So, what do you wish to converse about?"
Lucas sighed. "Peach, you don't have to be so…formal."
"My apologies. Where are your friends, Lucas?"
Lucas knew Peach would ask such a question. "When it rains, we don't really…hang out."
"And why is that?"
"I don't know why."
Peach moved a little closer to Lucas. The blonde blushed. He wasn't sure what Peach was doing, but he didn't like this small invasion of personal space.
"I used to be in the same situation like you, Lucas: just a young girl hiding away in her bedroom, away from the world whenever it rained. I never knew why I shut myself out like that, and to this day, I still do not know. What I do know is that I used to be so, so lonely. I was always by myself under the blanket of gloom.
One day, however, my beloved mother came by room on a rainy day I'll never forget. I remember how we both beamed with joy at our conversation. Ever since then, from the lightest of drizzles to the heaviest of storms, my mother and I would talk."
Peach smiled warmly at Lucas. The boy returned the smile. He knew what kind of point Peach was making, and he wasn't afraid to admit that it was working. His smiled faded away when he noticed the clear, blue skies beginning to appear. The bright rays of the sun began to pierce through the clouds and shine through the windows.
"Oh. It's stopped raining."
Peach looked out of the window. "Indeed it has. I take it you'll like to be with your friends?"
Lucas shook his head and grinned. "No, I would actually like to hear more stories from your childhood." After all, Lucas had liked what Peach told him. He enjoyed talking with her.
"Very well. Would you like to hear of the time I burnt an entire cake?"
Lucas laughed, ready to hear of Peach's cooking mishap. "Of course, Peach; I would like that."
