The first time he did, Parker was jumping out of a second-story window of their mark's house, without any warning. They'd ended up sprawled on the ground, with Parker's innocent and bizarrely unconcerned, "I didn't!" in response to his "How'd you even know I'd be there?"
The second and third times saw a touch more warning, per his request, but they'd still ended up sprawling because Parker doesn't understand the need for more than a three-second heads-up. She laughed both times, and Eliot scowled and gave up trying to explain why she couldn't just pounce him without proper warning. She didn't seem to understand that it could be dangerous, jumping him.
The fourth time she'd dumbfounded him by cutting him off with a blithe and slightly exasperated, "I knew you'd catch me, okay?" before disappearing through the no-exit door for their awaiting getaway van. Eliot had had no choice but to hurry out after her before his exit was sealed behind her.
After that, he didn't try again to talk sense into her, but he kept up the scowling for form's sake.
Now, staring up at the three-story warehouse complex, squinting in the harsh sun that had heat waves rising from the concrete that seemed to be literally everywhere, he was finally given more than a three-second window.
"Eliot, third-story window, far right, ten seconds. Catch me!"
"Ten sec—Parker, that's—damn it! There's something wrong with you!"
But he caught her anyway, because he always did.
