The rain came down hard, as if the sky was trying to wash all the evil out of the world, the faint rumble of thunder gave promise of an intense storm; and there the bright flashes in the skyline, thunder and lightning beginning their dance, two entities moving closer together. It was late, or early depending on your view of the world. 3:06 lit up on my dash board.
I stifled a yawn and took a sip of now cold coffee, just waiting for the stimulant to kick in. I watched the water run over the window, the view clear enough to make out the young couple racing through the down pour.
The girl ran barefoot, heels in hand, the other clasped tight to her lover. Clothes clinging to them they laughed, carefree and full of joy, embracing passionately beneath a hotel opening, the glow from the foyer lighting up their faces as they shared that most sacred kiss.
It was a perfect moment. Their perfect moment.
I smiled at the infectious joy they radiated, winding down my window to clear my view. The smile faded.
The crystal glean of the lovers eyes went wide as I pulled the trigger, two soft thuds and the harsh clink of metal as the casing hit the pavement. The smell of gunpowder was strong as I calmly put the car into gear, pulling away from the two now lifeless forms.
Above me the sky continued to dance.
