Big Project

I stared out the fogged window with disgust.

'It looks so old! Like if I put a feather on it, it would turn to dust!' I thought scathingly. I put a scowl on my pale face, just to make sure that my parents knew how much I hated them at the time. Of course they couldn't see me. They were to busy talking with our realtor, Jessica Tomphson. They looked so out of place, standing in front of our new house. What with the old shutters and peeling paint.

"It'll be a art project, we'll make our new house customized!" My mother had said. I glared at the house,

'Yeah, a big art project' I thought sarcastically. Sure it was big, two stories, and a huge backyard. I still didn't like it. I shirted my gaze to the snow ridden ground, simultaneously casting my long crimson tresses unto my face, casting a dark shadow across my eyes. I could have placed my hair behind my ear, but I liked to be mysterious. The ground was littered with animal tracks. I loved animals but not that much. I couldn't understand how there could be this much snow here.

"Can you believe that we came from California to here, talk about climate change" I said conversationally. My eye twitched as I heard a snore from behind me.

'Great, we just got here and she's already asleep' I thought mockingly. I turned in my seat and glared slightly at her school-girl demeanor. She was still in her skirt, blouse, and blazer. At least I had enough sense to change my clothes. Her parrot was rested snuggly in it's cage and I wondered if it was sleeping or if the parrot had died already. Either way my 12 year old sister wouldn't notice. A slight pain in my leg caused me to sweep away my thoughts and pay attention to the 10 month old kitten clawing my leg. I gently stroked its back and it looked at me with hungry eyes. I yanked my hand away as it started to nibble on my finger.

"Ouch!" I said loudly, not that it hurt but I had to teach the kitten that I was not food. I rolled down the window while pulling my coat closer to me. It is freezing.

"Mother! Alchemy is hungry!" I yelled down the pathway to our new house. No answer.

"Huhhh" I sigh out of frustration. I open the door while picking up Alchemy and set off towards the aged house.

"Great, now where are they?" I ask to no one in particular. I tilt my head slightly, as if that would make them appear. I look at the door to our new, yet used, house. 'Pine huh?' I pondered in my thoughts. I looked at the elderly house with interest. It was all pine.

"Must have looked nice back in the day" I stated. I gently grasped the doorknob and glanced at my sister. Still sleeping. I tenderly opened the light blue door and a loud creaking sound accompanied me.

"Mother?!" I called out hesitantly, not wanting to interrupt something. There was no reply so I walked further into the old house. The Prego pine floors creaked with my every step and were laden with dust. The walls had little tears in the wall-paper but other then that weren't damaged. I came to a halt at the stairs, there was something ominous about them. How they led into shadows and how they seemed to be hovering, attached to nothing but the wall. I looked around and saw no silhouettes of my mother, father and our realtor. I hesitated slightly before venturing up the eerie staircase. I clutch onto Alchemy as if a ghost were to appear he would be able to save me. I step onto the last step and leap onto the solid floor. I suddenly hear talking to the left of me and my eyes widen. I whip my head around and the talking stops. I hear hushing noises. All the sudden a shadow is cast on the opposite wall and I feel something lurking behind me.

"Elizabeth…..Elizabeth….." I jump as someone whispers my name in my ear. I turn around shakily, now holding Alchemy so tight that he is mewing in discomfort. The thing that whispered my name is…..
