Distractions
Black. That's all I can see. My eyes- no, his eyes- were briskly shut trying to wish away this unbearable pain. I hope, I wasn't actually screaming in reality. Charlie, my father would've a heart attack, after all this was my first night of 3 years that I'd have to stay in this dreary town of Denali in the Washington state.
I know, I'm not making any sense, I'll try to explain, my name is Bella Swan, I'm only 17, I'm not an ordinary person; no I'm far from that. Mainly because I have abnormal, messed-up powers: when I first meet someone and I have any type of physical contact, I can find out everything about a person- meaning I can find out your every secret, every thought, and your entire life story played out for me to see. Trust me, it's not a pleasant gift and frankly, it can be quite disturbing.
However, my gift tends to not haunt me in my sleep. The last time it did happen I discovered the world of the supernatural. My new knowledge forced me to move to Denali; everyone was under the assumption, I moved here to allow my mother, Renee to travel with her second husband, Phil, little did they know of the horrors I could've faced.
Of course, my being the most unlucky, clumsiest person alive shoved me back to the feet of another creature, literally. This morning, after I arrived , I entered the only grocery shop in town, in search of ingredients for my special fish fry as that was the only food in the kitchen, because in a small town the only thing you can do is fish: Charlie's favourite hobby that and working as the proud chief of police. I was wandering through the sparse aisles, when a cold hand brushed my own, I braced for the flash of memories that would appear my head, always only for a second, so I can reorganise my expression and tuck away the memories into the furthest pit of my head. As I was awaiting for the disturbing thoughts to reach my head, the bronze-haired man briskly strode away, as if in a hurry to get somewhere. Anxiously, I waited for the thoughts to be over with.
A minute passed, nothing. There was nothing intruding my thoughts. Finally! I exclaimed my cursed gift has been rid of me. Inside I was jumping for joy. As if the heaven felt like blessing me, I, miraculously, found all my ingredients, as I walked towards the cashiers, I knew I was grinning widely, almost hurting my cheeks.
Unfortunately, God doesn't like me, I handed over the money and my mind was immediately attacked by the blonde's thoughts. The grin was wiped off and a frown had replaced it.
"Ok Hun?" her tone was kind but my thoughts were too befuddled for me to polite
I mindlessly, replied to her question; pondering over the strange bronze-haired man from earlier, maybe he is immune to me, or he could be a...
NO, my mind screamed at me. I, just, couldn't think like that.
