One day I'll be happy
One day I'll stop crying as much as I do
One day…I'll truly smile with all my heart.
One day, my dreams shall come alive.
I looked forward; standing in front of me was my opportunity. My freedom, my dreams, my everything was there; so close. I looked back, in that instant I saw my old life, my family, my friends, the old me. I was giving it up because they…it didn't want me.
I looked forward again and slowly walked towards the portal, I looked back one last time. When they woke up I would be long gone, but I would be free. It was rude to leave so suddenly though I'm sure they wouldn't mind at all. I looked forward again, took all my courage, and jumped forward on my last words.
"Goodbye forever, reality."
That had been a year ago. Now here I was looking up at the beautiful sunny blue sky, lying on the emerald grass as the wind played with my hair. I smiled; I felt true happiness and peace. That memory was a sad one, but it barely made me cry. After all, it was all in the past now.
"Marina? What are you doing there?" I looked up and saw one of the many reasons I left reality. He stood there so proud, eyes flashing a sort of fire. His blue fur shinning in the afternoon sun and his white teeth gleamed with his smile. I smiled back and said not a word, but patted the ground next to me.
He shook his head and sighed; he walked over and sat next to me as we watched the clouds roll by. "Sonic?"
"Yeah," he said.
"I'm glad I'm here."
I didn't have to look to know he was looking at me. Reading my face, but he already knew how I felt and what to do.
He raised his gloved hand to wipe one tear down my cheek as I looked back at him. His eyes turned to worry than to compassion as he gave me his signature smile. "I'm glad too, especially because I get to see your smile," he said.
I could already feel the memory leave my mind as I smiled at him. I knew I could never frown for long when Sonic smiled, or when a certain someone laughed.
Suddenly, I heard a whoosh sound above my head. I looked up to see a pair of royal blue eyes stare right back at me. I blinked as those eyes held a sort of curiosity to them. The eyes belonged to a creature with a purple outfit and looked like a jester. The jester was flying in mid air as he looked back at me.
I smiled as NiGHTS floated above both me and Sonic. He then leaned on Sonic's head as he would if he was lying down; obviously try to get the hedgehog's goat.
It worked.
"NiGHTS! Why do you ALWAYS do that!" The hedgehog yelled, shaking the nightmaren off. His quills growing sharp from irritation.
An innocent face and shrug was his answer.
"Your just fun to mess with."
"Ugh! You're impossible."
NiGHTS smirked and floated on his back in the air as Sonic shook his head at the jester. I smiled at the two; these guys were my new family, my new life.
I grabbed my hover board, the blue rose, and stood in front of the two. "The last one to Cream's house has to pick berries for the pie." I challenged, I could already see the competitive smirks laced on their faces.
"You're on," they said.
They went up to the big oak tree, the usual starting line, as I took a moment to gaze at the sky. "Come on Marina!!" They yelled, breaking me from my thoughts. I ran back to the tree and off we raced. I had never been so happy in my old life, in the new one; all the time.
"Was she crying?"
"A little."
"Is she okay now?"
A pause. "Yeah…she'll be just fine."
