It was one of those days.
One of those perfect blue-sky, sunshine days. Every stretch of exposed earth was warmed by friendly rays of sun, sending the active inhabitants of Knothole into a sleepy, satisfied sort of torpor. Upon one of the grassy hills above the little town stood a certain blue hedgehog, droopy eyed and sighing with his arms folded behind his head.
Peaceful days like this didn't happen very often, so Sonic was all too eager to enjoy the entirety of the peace napping on this grassy hill. He had gone up there alone for a reason- he liked Tails and all, but he was still a kid and would want to go do something on a sunny day like this- Something that wasn't napping.
Sonic fell backwards without any hesitation, the grass was thick and soft enough that it hardly troubled him to throw himself around. The hedgehog smiled to himself as he let his eyes snap shut, the heat of the sun warming him better than any winter-time fire.
He laid there for a while, completely motionless, hands behind his head, and was just on the edge of entering dreamland when he felt the grass beside him move a little, and suddenly smelled a very familiar perfume. Rose Perfume.
It didn't take a genius to figure out who it was- so Sonic, not wanting to be roped into something, willfully kept his eyes shut, pretending to be asleep.
There were several moments where nothing happened, Sonic just waited through painfully long seconds for Amy to buzz off.
But buzz she did not.
Silently she moved next to him, kneeling, he guessed- then she laid her head in the crook of his arm, ever so gently. Sonic was a bit perturbed by her boldness, but disguised his mild surprise as a sleep induced shuffle- a little amused how her head lifted a little off him when he moved; She was tense.
Amy settled back down on his arm, though, not really touching any other part of him. He thought he could feel her looking probingly at him- expecting him to 'wake-up' any second and throw her off of him like a diseased leper.
She was right to be concerned about that.
Sonic would not disappoint her in that aspect- at least… Not when he decided to wake up. For now… He would let this happen. A little game- and he felt like upping the ante.
Amy appeared to settle into that spot relatively quickly, Sonic lifted one of his eyelids a little to check and see if she was done being fretful. It seemed she was, her eyes were closed and her body was tightly curled up beside him.
He grinned for only a moment… Then lazily rolled his body towards her, draping his other arm over her body and rested his head just above hers.
As he expected, she convulsed and gasp in some mixture of delight and dread, he felt her head move up a little to try and get a look at his face.
But Sonic still pretended to be asleep… And Amy appeared to be a little deflated. The blue hedgehog wasn't sure why she tried to hard to be his 'special somebody'- after all the times he denied her and left her in the dust he expected a saint would lose their patience.
But not Amy. She was crazy- No- she was… Plucky, maybe? That was a nicer term.
Sonic saw this as a minor reward for her endurance- a gift from him. Nothing more, nothing less.
-Though… As Amy quietly nestled her head into his chest and curled her fingers around his waist… He felt a warmth tingle through him.
A warmth that didn't come from that perfect sun.
