A/N: Just as a note, Alexander's about fifteen here. Hephaestion's round sixteen.

Sarah Brennen stares in wonder at the ancient room. If the other archeologists are right she's standing in Alexander the Great's bedroom chambers. She takes a deep breath and smiles at the history around her. In her mind a small blond boy (she has always imagined Alexander as a blond) plays explorer with his beautifully crafted pillows.

Crouching down to the floor, Sarah removes one of her larger brushes from her belt and begins to brush away dirt and grime by were the floor meets the wall.

As Sarah works she hums, stopping only when she believes she can see a carving through the filth. Ignoring her best instincts, Sarah drops the brush to the floor and begins to chip away at the wall with her own fingernails. Once she thinks she's removed enough dirt Sarah blows on the wall, making the dust scatter. She leans forward, squinting in the poor lighting.

Chiseled into the old stone is Alexander and Hephaestion.

Hephaestion grinned foolishly, brushing back hair from Alexander's forehead. He kissed the corner of his friend's eye. Alexander smiled back. He opened his eyes, taking Hephaestion by surprise. The taller boy gave an unmanly squeak when Alexander pulled him into his bed. The blond boy took further advantage of his friends confusion by flipping them so Alexander sat straddling Hephaestion's midsection. He gave the boy under him a smug look.

"How did you know it was me?" Hephaestion asked. He rested a hand on Alexander's calf.

"Cleopatra's gone for the month." Alexander said, shrugging. "And mother hasn't spoken to me in almost a fortnight."

Hephaestion gave the prince a sympathetic look while rubbing his leg with his thumb. Alexander promptly thanked his friend for his support by kissing him on the mouth. Hephaestion, ever the eager beaver, kissed him back overzealously. In his pleasure the blond boy didn't notice until it was almost to late that his friend was switching positions. After a brief wrestling match Hephaestion sat victoriously on Alexander's stomach. The shorter boy grumbled as the other smiled smugly.

Hephaestion grinned evilly while pushing Alexander's arms into the mattress. He kissed his friend's neck repeatedly.

After nearly five minutes Alexander bolted into a sitting position, flinging Hephaestion to the head of the bed. "I've nearly forgotten myself!" He said, placing his feet on the stone floor. Hephaestion stared at his friend in wonder as he began dragging his bedside table away from the wall. Smiling brightly Alexander proudly pointed to the floor. The taller boy gave the other a strange look.

"Are you alright, Alexander? Shall I call for the physician?"

Alexander rolled his eyes in exasperation. "Come here and look!"

Sighing Hephaestion humored his friend by climbing out of bed and bending over to see the stone more clearly.

Alexander and Hephaestion.

He looked again, wanting to be sure he hadn't read it wrong. He smiled.

Alexander and Hephaestion.

Hephaestion straightened his body and stood next to Alexander. He gave his friend a hug that might have been brotherly had his lips not been on Alexander's neck.

Once the two boys broke apart Hephaestion attacked Alexander's mouth with his own.

Alexander and Hephaestion Sarah reads again. She sighs and smiles. Love is such a beautiful thing.

A/N: Not mine. Also, just so everyone knows, I did try really, really hard to make this right. Historically. Did I do well?
