Jack watched as the outside scenery past him by. Sighing Jack thought about the last couples of hours. He couldn't believe how is life had done a 360 in a matter of just a few hours. One minute him and his band were about to play the most important gig of their lives the next he's catching the next bus to Detroit. Jack rubbed his eyes wearily he needed sleep but every time he closed his eyes he went back to that horrible moment that will change his life forever.

Jack sighed once more and turned to face the window. It had started raining a few states back. He traced the raindrops as they rolled down the window. Jack decided to try to get as much rest as possible. He knew as soon as he stepped through those doors to his childhood home there would be an onslaught of questions from his brothers and ma.

He knew that as soon as he hung up with ma that she had turned around and called Bobby, Jerry, and Angel, and exactly in that order. Even though he thought he had done a good job of keeping the fear and panic out of his voice, Evelyn Mercer was one not to be fooled. Jack smiled as he thought about the conversation he had with his mother on the phone.

Flashback

Ringing of the telephone brought her out of her peaceful slumber. With a burst of energy only acquired after years of getting late night phone calls from hospitals, police, and social works she answered the phone on its third ring.

"Hello," she said softly.

" Ma, " Jack Evelyn Mercer's youngest son whispered on the other end.

" Jackie! What's wrong? Are you okay?" she asked worried she could hear it in his voice even though he was trying his best to hide it.

" Nothing Ma I just wanted to tell you that I was coming to visit you," Jack explained.

" But what about your band? Jackie what's going are you in trouble?" Evelyn asked inquiringly.

" Well the band has a couple of days off so I thought it would be a good idea to come home for a few days," he rushed out.

" Oh okay then. When will you be here?"

" Soon right now I'm still in New York I'll be catching the 12:50 bus to Detroit."

" Okay Jackie I'll see you when you get her."

" Okay Ma…"

Before he could get another word out his mother cut him off.

" Jackie are you sure your okay? Nothing's wrong?" Evelyn Mercer asked worry heavy in her voice.

" Yea Ma everything's great nothing to worry about," he replied hating himself for making his mother worry.

" Okay if you're sure."

" I'm sure. I'll see you soon love you."

" Love you too Jackie."

With that they both hung up with loud sighs. Knowing that something wasn't right Evelyn Mercer picked up the phone and dialed the one person that could find out what has her youngest son terrified.

The phone was answered on the fourth ring.

" Hello," the gruff voice from sleep answered.

" Bobby you need to come home," she said with all seriousness.
