Chapter 1: Prologue

While spying on Space Pirate frigate Delta, Galactic Federation 1st Commander D. Neil discovered a mysterious entity now in command of the Space Pirates. However, visual description has been lost, as Neil was quickly discovered and killed by the pirates as the frigate entered orbit around planet SI0333 codename Obscura. Bounty for avenging Neil's death: 400,000,000 credits.
The blonde-haired woman know as Samus Aran stared at the screen in her gunship. She had heard rumors about planet Obscura and the terrifying tales associated with it. All she knew was that those who arrive never come back. She wondered why the Space Pirates would orbit that planet. Perhaps they found something out there. Something big. Not only will she go there to exterminate the Pirates, but also to unveil the mystery behind Obscura. Plus, the 400,000,000 credits would also please her.
She pressed the Accept button.

Travel to planet SI0333 and spy upon Space Pirate activity

Samus's Hunter-Class Gunship sped towards the Enigma sector, so named for the many mysteries it brings up, such as the mysterious vessel disappearances. It wasn't long before it found the planet Obscura.
Its clouds were red. Blood-red. It had a total of twelve icy rings encircling it. It was a good 19,320 units in diameter, and its rings were 6,343 units wide. Upon arrival, Samus scanned the planet for any important information.
Scan complete. This planet has a decent amount of oxygen, making it suitable for human life. Ecosystems are large and teeming with life. Landforms and buildings suggest the existence of a civilization similar to the Chozo and the Luminoth. Scans also pinpoint the presence of an unknown radioactive material seemingly more potent than Phazon. Origin of this material is certain; judging by a small crater, an entity carrying this material must have crashed on this planet about 3.2 decacycles ago.
This last bit if info put Samus into an uncomfortable state. The Space Pirates were always looking for ways to upgrade their warfare. Perhaps after traveling the galaxy, they passed by this planet, found out about this unknown material, and wished to experiment with it. If they found it usable for their weaponry and mutation, there would be no telling what they will do.
Alright, dammit, she thought, time to put an end to these Pirates' psychotic experiments!
She noticed a vessel of Space Pirate design near the small crater. Setting the gunship's flight path, she raced to the Pirate frigate, having no idea what she will discover…
