It was a conversation that just had to be had. I was re-watching season one episodes whilst I was ill and I could just see it. Sorry, it is fairly open, which is very unlike me.
A Knight in Shining FBI Standard-Issue Body Armour
"Sweetie, why not?" Angela moaned as she flopped down onto the sofa in Brennan's office.
"Because he's my partner Angela!" Bones scoffed at the idea. "It's not professional."
"Screw being professional. You need to get away from death for a bit." She shook her head.
"Angela, I'm fine." She huffed, stuffing files into her bag.
"You take your work home with you. That is not a good sign."
"Why? I've always taken my work home with me." Tempe looked at her best friend.
"Because you work with dead people every day. For a standard office worker that would be bad, but for someone working with this..." Angela waved her arms around the office, "It is really, really bad."
"Why?" Brennan asked, looking at Angela. "You work with dead people all day, why is it worse for me?"
"Because, I only work with their faces and the theories. You are...close to the victims. You get to know them personally." Angela smiled.
"Ange, you used to say that the face was the most personal part of them."
"Do you remember what you said to me on the Cleo Eller case after a bad day? You said that you knew Cleo, even though you had only seen her bones. You told me about her breaking her arm when she was seven and she fell off her bike. You get personal to the victims. You have said that they are real, you can see them and you can feel their pain." Angela said. "You are the closest person to the victims and you need a break."
"Ok, we can go out, glug, glug, woohoo, but I can't just go round Booth's and say "I need a break and Angela thinks we should sleep together."!" She cried.
"Who does Angela think you should sleep with?" Hodgins asked as he walked into the office.
"Nobody." Brennan said, glaring at Angela.
"A certain FBI agent." Angela grinned and wiggled her eyebrows. "I don't want to go out sweetie, if you want to go out then you can but I think you should go and visit Booth."
"Angela is right." Hodgins said, shh-ing Angela as she muttered "as always". "It would do you some good to have a proper relationship."
"I wasn't suggesting a proper relationship." Angela said.
"What? Angela, a one night stand between me and Booth would break this whole team apart." Brennan said, her voice raising.
"I just think you should give him a chance, ok." Angela said. "If it does develop into something else, I don't think that it would be a bad thing."
"That second half was correct." Jack said, sitting down next to the artist.
"Look, it's not going to happen. Booth is just my partner. It's as ridiculous as you two sleeping together." Brennan said.
"I don't think that that is too unfeasible." The entomologist said and the woman next to him shook her head.
"Never happening, Hodgepodge." She smiled and rolled her eyes. "Booth is a knight in shining standard-issue FBI body armour. Just give it a shot sweetie, please."
"No, Angela. I'm tired. I'm going home." She looked at her friends. "Goodnight."
"Do you think they are sleeping together?" Angela asked Hodgins quietly once Brennan had left.
"No, Angie, I don't. I think that they should but I don't think they are."
"Mmm. It's sad, don't you think." Angela sighed, standing up and switching the light off as they walked out.
"You are more obsessed with her sex life than she is." Hodgins laughed.
"Someone has to be interested in it." She shrugged.
