Darkwind

Dew fell off of the dark leaves, as the warm wind of greenleaf fluttered by. All was still, except for a young tom the padded silently along the river's edge.

"Foxpelt, is that you?" A low voice cracked with age.

"Yes Wildstar, it is me." The tom-cat replied coming up to his leader's side.

"It is time for me to join starclan." Wildstar rasped, looking up at the ginger cat. "Wildstar, don't speak of such nonsense. You'll be fine." Foxpelt insisted. Wildstar laughed quietly.

"You engourage me, yet inside you refuse to see the truth."

Foxpelt looked away from Wildstar, she was right he did not want to look at the truth.

"I always knew that you would be the best deputy for Spiritclan. Ever since you were an apprentice." Wildstar continued.

"Wait Wildstar, let me get Whisperfur," Foxpelt protested noticing the weakness growing in Wildstar's blue eyes.

"Hush, it is my time, there is nothing that any medicine cat could do for me now." Wildstar snapped gazing up at Foxpelt, he lay down next to her. Their pelt's brushing together. She purred softly, and flicked her tail. Foxpelt lowered his gaze, he could see the faint rise and fall of her chest as she breathed.

"I know that my clan is safe. With you as their leader, I believe that Spiritclan will once again be strong." Wildstar's voice faded slowly. Her body jerked, and then she lay still. "Goodbye Wildstar, I will try my best to guide our clan." Foxpelt sighed, and sat his head down on her neck. Her dark brown fur was growing cold, and a faint death scent drifted about. But Foxpelt stayed there, shut his eyes, and fell into a deep troubled sleep.

Chapter 1

Flamekit opened her eyes. Bright morning light flooded into the nursery warming her fur, and heating the breeze. She blinked slowly, her green eyes finally adjusting to the light. "Flamekit." A small voice hissed, she turned around to see Ashkit carefully stepping over his sister's tail.

"What is it?" Flamekit asked hopping up and running over to greet her friend.

"Let's go outside, we can try to get into Foxstar's den again." Ashkit replied batting at Flamekit's tail playfully.

"Okay, let's go." Flamekit agreed slowly padding toward the door to the nursery.

"Let's go where?" Flamekit flinched hearing her mother Steppingstone's voice.

"Uh, dirtplace." Ashkit mewed. Steppingstone nodded before speaking again.

"Okay, but be careful."

"We will!" Flamekit exclaimed rather loudly. Shaking her head, Steppingstone settled in to go back to sleep.

When the two got outside Ashkit sighed with relief "That was close, we almost got caught!"

"Come on, let's go mousebrain." Flamekit muttered racing over to the stones where the Spiritclan leader's den was. Just before they made a dash for the den, a large paw slammed down on Flamekit's tail.

"Hey! What did you do that for?" She asked turning over expecting to see Ashkit. Instead Brownpaw the medicine cat apprentice looked down sharply at her.

"Foxdung." Flamekit cursed under her breath.

"Where do you think your going?" Brownpaw meowed.
