Prologue
Growing Darkness
What Shen had once called her home was burning and crumbling around her.
She was barely conscious. Barely alive, even. It felt like she was on fire. Perhaps she was.
Standing up, legs wobbling so much she could barely stand, she navigated through the house and out into the fresh air.
Shen felt like a zombie. She was walking down a road, barely processing anything. Her head was clouded, and hurt so much it felt like it was going to explode.
She didn't even know what was happening when a vehicle drove up next to her.
All she could see from then on was the growing darkness inside her that threatened to spill over.
