After reading several Fate stay fanfics, I have noticed a distinct lack of unique origin Shirou stories. Most stories make Shirou overpowered or give him some sort of unexplained powerup that makes him really OP. Denial of nothingness is also used often as an excuse to make him more powerful in fanfics. This is an idea that has been floating around that I would like for someone to attempt, which gives him more to work with but also has other drawbacks. What if Shirou had the origin and element Save (i.e he is a "save" incarnation)? This grants him a unique affinity for thaumaturgy. His skills in thaumaturgy are defined by his belief of what he needs in order to save someone. For example, using water spells to put out a burning building? This allows him to learn several branches of thaumaturgy but also presents some difficulty. Some examples would be:
Holy elements (Purifying side effect though can be used for combat)
Time alter (I'm thinking this could be a result of his failure to be at the right place at the right time)
Reinforcement, Projection, Structural Grasp and Alteration (Cause he's Shirou)
Healing skills and Alchemy (Proper first aid can save someones life and a good portion of alchemy centres on the making of elixers)
Runes and bounded fields (A bit esoteric really. Bounded fields can construct barriers and Runes can be used to define rules in a bounded space. Thus if one enforces rules which prevent some crime from occurring? Something to examine.)
For drawbacks, I'm thinking purely offensive thaumaturgy such as demonic elements (used by Lorelei Barthomelloi), curses such as the Gandr shot and others would be difficult if not impossible to use. Also, Shirou's offensive moves could be weaker than their defensive counterparts which leads to him having to be more thoughtful and creative in his fights.
Since an origin is ones truest perception, one could treat Shirou's original sword origin as the reason for his denseness and bluntness. However with his save origin, Shirou's personality could reflect more on the stereotypical hero persona, suave, powerful, kind and loving, brave etc. Go nuts.
The main point is that I hope someone can take this idea and possibly write something on it. If anyone is interested, you can send me a response for any ideas.
