He was floating away fast. The vast expanse of space welcoming him into its dark embrace. The Imperial II star destroyer that he'd been recently stationed on leaving him behind as it took a random slip space jump away from its attackers, A rebel mon calamari flag ship surrounded by a fleet of smaller rebel ships. Many were corallian corvettes but there were some old acclamators and old banking clan ships in the fleet. All in all, it was not something to sneeze at. Much of the tech may have been long out dated, about 50 years ago during the Galactic Empire's rise, but the weaponry used in the ship still packed a considerable punch. Enough to force a top of the line Star Destroyer to flee.
It had all been routine. A patrol through a star system on the outer rim. Nothing extremely high risk. When all of a sudden, an entire fleet dropped out of hyperspace to ambush one, single, star destroyer. Command scrambled to get as many TIE fighters, the TIE standing for twin ion engine, into the battle as quick as possible.
He was one of the only few to make it out. And one of the first ones to get hit. His TIE had been so caught up in dogfighting with an X wing, when a second one had seemingly popped up out of nowhere and fired a proton torpedo and took out his engines. He had just enough time to climb out of the cockpit and push off before the craft exploded. Of course, his suit could supply him with an hour's worth of air. That was about a half an hour ago.
Rebel ships were scanning about the wreckage, looking for something. Probably equipment, after all, the rebellion was a patch work military. They used anything they could get their hands on. All of it went to the giant war machine that was the rebellion.
He wouldn't lie. The Empire had done some unethical things in its past. But the Rebellion was simply there to cause war. Everything had been swallowed up in this war. Planets destroyed, families lost. His family too. His family had been slaughtered by the rebellion in the battle for Naboo. His parents and kid sister gunned down by rebel forces like animals. He'd been away at an Imperial pilot academy on Coruscant when he'd heard the news. He initialy denied it, Naboo was too peaceful for something like that. But he'd seen the holotapes.
There was even one on his parent's street. Peaceful one second, and war torn the next. His parents and his sister almost immediately ran from the house to try for safety, when a rebel squad cut them off. You could see his father try to reason with the squad leader, but the man laughed and gunned his family down all the same.
From that day forth, he'd vowed that he'd avenge his family's death. One rebel at a time.
He'd entered the Imperial Academy as soon as he turned 18. It was the second best, and subsequently the worst, day of his life. The best was when he made TIE Pilot. He'd be piloting one of the Empire's most destructive instruments. Light, fast, and powerful. Every Stormtrooper's dream.
Which lead him up to this very point in time. A year after graduating from the academy. As he gazed at what was probably the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, and deadly, he saw one of the rebel ships had finally zeroed in on him.
And he was out of luck. Out of time.
