Chapter one

When death comes knocking

I turned in my sleep, sat up and inhaled heavily. I was panting and sweating madly. I was scared; I didn't want to sleep anymore. I got up and headed for the door, went straight to the kitchen and got some milk. I sat down and thought. But I couldn't think because the only thing in my head was the dream I just had. I closed my eyes.

I was at a dark and horrifying alley. I didn't know why, but I was running. Apparently I was running away from something. The alley way was endless.

Then I heard it. Laughter. But it wasn't laughing merrily; it had this cold shrill, as if trying to mock me. I just ran. I had this feeling that I just needed to run away because I felt that if I didn't run, something would go terribly wrong.

But the problem was, he wasn't running after me. He was just walking and laughing. But no matter how fast I ran he would always catch up from behind me. I halted to a stop. There right in front of me was a great brick wall. I tried climbing it, but it was too smooth and too high.

Then I noticed something strange, bones were scattered around me. Skulls and ribs were everywhere. And right behind me were two people, I noticed they were recently killed. They still had rotting flesh yet they were missing their heads. Someone had chopped it off.

The next thing I knew the stranger was behind me. He was smiling menacingly his face was under a black hood but I could notice his eyes very clearly. They were bloodshot red and they had a hint of derangement.

In half a second, he brought out a metal object. It gleamed in the dark and illuminated everything around it; it was a butcher's knife. I trembled. He raised his hand high and stabbed me.

He slashed at my body and laughed all the while but as he was doing so, I felt no pain. This must be what death is like. He threw his head back and howled with laughter. Then with my last breath and the last seconds of my life, I caught a glimpse of his face. I gasped. It was Natsume Hyuuga.

I coiled. It was the fourth time I have dreamt that particular dream. Death wasn't the thing that scared me. It was the thought of natsume actually doing it. Killing people for the fun of it? He wouldn't do that. But how was I certain?
