Nymphadora Tonks Lupin sat on the sink of the bathroom off of her and Remus' bedroom, looking at the little not-quite-an-hour glass as the sand poured from one chamber to the other. Remus stood across from her, leaning against the wall.
"I really hope it's positive," she said absently. He nodded. Of course he knew that. She had been going crazy over having another baby for a few months now. Even Teddy knew about it.
"Oh, it's almost done," she said, raising the glass up to eye level. She watched intently as the last of the sand poured down and snatched at the sink next to her, where a white plastic stick lay untouched for ten minutes.
"It's blue," Tonks said, face expressionless. Then it lit up. "Does that mean we're going to have a boy?" she asked excitedly.
Remus took the two steps to the sink and took the little direction booklet out of the box Tonks had discarded. "Uh, no, love. Blue means negative," he watched as she began to pout. Teddy toddled into the room and lifted his arms to Remus, who picked the little boy up.
"Fuck," Tonks said under her breath, upset. Teddy recognized the word.
"No baby?" he asked his daddy.
"No baby," Remus confirmed, following his wife out of the bathroom.
