Kai walked around the temple grounds with his hands behind his head, watching the other airbenders go through Meelo's ridiculous obstacles. He smirked when most of them fell and turned towards the Bison caves with full intent on visiting his own bison. He wasn't watching where he was going and someone stepped right in his path.
"Just where do you think you're going?"
Kai held his hands up and smiled at the short haired girl.
"Oh, hey. Um, I was just going for a stroll." He lied.
"Really? Because it looks like you're avoiding training."
"Jinora-"
"Master Jinora." She said with an evil grin and raised an eyebrow.
"Aw, come on. I can air scoot circles around these guys!"
"Oh I see. You think you're a Master now too."
He crossed his arms and looked away. He was flustered and still a little rebellious.
"It's not that, it's just… I'm not being challenged enough."
"Okay then, race me."
"What? you can't be serious." He said and uncrossed his arms.
"I am completely serious. Three laps around the island. First one back to the meditation pagoda wins."
Kai turned the idea in his head and a smile spread across his face.
"And just what do I get when I win?"
"You get out on training for the rest of the week." She said and ran her hand through her extremely short hair. It was about an inch long now. She smirked and a look of determination flashed in her eyes. "But, when you lose, you get to train under me for a week straight."
"That doesn't sound so bad." He said and flicked his thumb over his nose.
"I'm a much harder instructor than Meelo."
"I guess it doesn't matter because I'm going to win."
She laughed and came to his side, getting into a bending stance. He mirrored her stance and she counted down.
"Three. Two. One. GO!"
And off they went, air scooters flying around the island. It took Kai just a second longer to make his scooter so that gave Jinora an advantage, but he quickly caught up, cutting her off on the inside corners. First lap down and he was leading by mere inches. She couldn't let him get out of training. She feel behind him on purpose to give him a false sense of security and rounded the corner on the inside, getting ahead of him the same way he had done to her. Second lap and they were neck and neck, both of them pushing themselves. Jinora pulled from inside herself and found extra strength, pulling ahead of him and passing him just as they crossed the finish line. She laughed and jumped off her scooter, jogging to a stop. Kai was right behind her, coming up to her and tipping a little forward, trying to catch his balance.
He put his hands on his knees and looked up at her as she looked over her shoulder to him. he didn't have words. She smiled and walked over to him, patting him on the back.
"And that's why I have the tattoos."
"Yeah yeah." He said and stood up straight. He wasn't very happy. She saw the disappointment on his face and her features softened.
"Don't worry Kai, we'll have fun."
"Okay." He said and kicked a rock on the ground.
She took his hand and kissed him on the cheek.
"I promise, it'll be fun and challenging and not boring in anyway."
This made him smile and blush and he nodded.
"Okay, meet me here tomorrow morning after breakfast."
"Sure Jin-Master Jinora." he said and gave her hand a squeeze. She blushed and let go to see how much her brother was torturing the other airbenders.
