"Well class that brings us to the end of our topic on the civil war." Mr Fields stated. I was getting rather sick of listing to teachers ramble on about the civil war. None of them really know anything about it anyway.
"But," Mr Fields carried on. "We still have a week left until we have to start our new topic, so how would you all feel about spending that week on a… mystery of sorts." Mystery of sorts, we have never had this in History class before.
"This mystery I speak of is really rather intriguing. There was once a very young officer in the Confederate army; he was 22 years old when he went missing. He was one of the youngest officers in Texas if not the entire army, any who had contact with this officer said that he held a certain irresistible charm." I had stopped staring at the wood grain on my desk to look at Mr Fields, "his name was Major Jasper Whitlock."
I heard Rosalie who was sitting at the desk next to mine let out a small giggle.
"What's so funny Miss Hale?" The teacher scolded.
"Oh nothing sir," she said innocently, glancing over at me. "Nothing at all." Her lips pressed together tightly, no doubt trying not to laugh some more.
"Major Whitlock," Mr Fields continued. "Was born in 1841 – although some research leads us to believe that his actual date was in 1843 – he joined the Confederate army in 1861. He quickly made his way up the ranks. But two years later he was entrusted with the job of evacuating woman and children, presumably they were being evacuated from Texas City so we believe he may have been heading toward Galveston. But doing that very job in 1863 Major Jasper Whitlock, one of the Confederates most promising soldiers, just disappeared."
The Bell rang signalling the end of the day.
"So for the next week we will be trying to discover what happened to this soldier, thank you all. You are dismissed."
AS soon as we were out the class room Rosalie stared laughing, and she didn't stop. "A certain irresistible charm" she quoted "most promising soldier". When we got out to the car Rosalie ran toward Emmett, "Hey Emmett, guess what Jasper and I will be studding in History for the next week?"
"I don't know babe…what will you and Jasper be studying in History for the next week?" He asked raising his eye brows dramatically.
"We will be studying… 'The mysterious disappearance of Major Jasper Whitlock'"
Emmett joined Rosalie in her laughing fit. Aw would this ever end.
