Chapter 1: Our First Meeting

Kazuki's POV

"Where ya going, Kazuki?" I turned to the sound of the too familiar voice, "better not be ditching school today.'

I smirked at my friend as he walked up to me with a huge smile, "Not that I'm stopping ya or anything, pretty boy 'cause I'd pay millions to see your parents get to ya about that. Especially your mother."

"You're such an idiot, Kinzoku," I replied, "You know I'd never ditch and yes, one of the reasons would be I'm deathly afraid of my mother. You are, too you know."

He slapped my back as we continued walking down the hallway of Magnolia High School.

The Magic Council ten years ago decided that it was time for kids in the magical kingdom of Fiore to be educated and not running from town to town destroying stuff. So, in ever town, a grade school, junior high, and high school were built. To graduate, you must complete a wizard task given to you by the local guild. Yes, we're still allowed to be members of wizard guilds but to be a fully recognized wizard, you must complete the task set.

That's only one of the very few graduation requirements.

"Crap, you know how scary she can get!" he continued, throwing his arm around my shoulders, "She literally chased me out of the house because I looked at Kimiko."

I chuckled, "Why don't you just stick with crushing on girls our age."

"The hell, Kazuki? You also think I'd be hitting on your little sister?"

"I sure hope you're not," I said. "I'm not hesitating if you as much as wink at her."

"Please, man," he pulled me closer, much to my discomfort, "You know there's only one girl I can ever like. Kori Fullbuster."

"I'm aware," I said, pushing myself away from him. "You practically drool whenever she walks by."

It was his turn to laugh, rubbing his dragon-like red eyes in the process, "You too funny. Anyway, I need to run. Daddy Gajeel's got some new spells he wants to show me."

I nodded my farewell, "Just don't break anything, alright? Our team already lost a lot of money due to the damages you cause."

"Most of them were done by you, too!" he said before running off yelling, "See you at the guildhall!"

I continued my walk out of the building, greeting a few girls who try to get my attention with a simple nod.

Like my dad, I have his Heavenly Body magic and also inherited Mother's special re-quip magic as well. No, I don't have all those armors like she does, but my armor is ten times cooler and yes they are very effective. My sister, Kimiko, however, only inherited Father's magic but she is quite skilled with it.

Kinzoku and I have formed a small team of our own. Just I, he, and sometimes Kimiko would tag along. She's usually busy helping Mirajane back at the guildhall to go out as much as I do but yet, she becomes very helpful when we need it.

"Onee-san!" her sweet voice carried by the wind to my ears, letting me know that I have arrived at Magnolia Junior High.

I turned to my little sister with a smile, "Hey, Kimi."

In her white sailor uniform, she ran up to me and hugged me. I brought her body closer to mines, "Anything new today?"

Immediately, the smile on her face turned a bit and her face became the color of my hair.

"Kimiko? What's up?" I kneel down so that I'm at eyelevel, "Has somebody been bullying you?"

She shook her head, "N-no. Why would you assume something was wrong?"

I raised an eyebrow, "You're shuttering plus your face is all red."

"It's nothing, really," my little sister grabbed my hand and started leading me home without even looking back at me once.

"We're home!" Kimiko and I said in sync as we passed through our front door.

"Welcome home, kids," My dad came into view from behind the sliding door leading to the living room. He had a huge grin and holding his newspaper in his hands.

"Daddy!" yelled Kimiko. She then threw her book bag at me before running straight into our father's arms.

I silently shut our front door before taking my shoes off.

Something's up with Kimi, I thought as I looked up. Her face might be smiling, but I know for sure, something's wrong with her.

"Kazuki?" suddenly, my mother's concern voice made me turn to her. She poked her head out from behind the kitchen door, "I something wrong, honey?"

I smiled to reassure her, "Nothing. Just mentally managing my time."

Her brow creased, "You sure?"

I walked up to her and kissed her cheek, "Don't worry, Mom. Everything's fine, I just need rest and to finish homework is all."

She sighed, "You never tell me anything nowadays, do you?"

"There's nothing to tell," I shrugged. "I've told you everything already."

Mom opened her mouth again to speak but Dad quickly cut in, "It's alright, Erza. Kazuki's a teenager now. There are just some secrets he keeps from us."

I silently thanked my father for his intrusion.

"That's what I'm worried about, Jellal," she looked up at me, her eyes filled with somber. Guilt quickly clawed through me as she continued to speak, "Pretty soon, he'd be gone."

"Come on, Mom," I said, trying to soothe her a bit, "I'll never leave Magnolia. It's my home and always will be."

Another familiar voice came from the living room, causing my family's attention to turn towards the man. I thanked the man as well for the interruption. My mother and I walked into the living room to greet him.

The man with pink hair.

"Kazuki's all grown up now, Erza," he smirked, showing his dragon-like fangs, "Let him live a little, will ya?"

My mother crossed her arms at the man, "I know how to raise my kids without your help, Natsu."

That's right. Natsu Dragneel, one of the many mages to have died in the war, is now sitting in our living room as if it's casual.

"Yep! And I have also helped you guys, too! You gotta thank me sometime Erza," he raised his arms and placed them behind his head.

You must be confused so let me explain.

Yes, Natsu was the hero in the war in the final battle that earned Fiore its victory. Yes, he did die. So why is he in our living room? First Master Mavis did something (he never told us) that allowed him to "haunt" our house. So really, he's just the old man lounging in our living room twenty-four seven. I don't mind him and he's always been an uncle with me growing up. He's there when I need him and in return, I'd sneak him a match or two to eat while my parents are asleep. (Apparently, ghosts get hungry, too.)

The clock suddenly chimed, causing me to realize that if I'm late again, Kinzoku would just leave on the job without me.

I ran out of the living room without a word, leaving my mom arguing with her dead teammate. I changed into a white shirt underneath with a long white vest, similar to Natsu's. The longest sleeve covered the arm without the insignia and black pants.

Once I finished, I rushed out of the house, yelling a good bye to my parents.

Crap! I'm so late! How the hell did I end up being so late? I mentally scolded myself.

I ran too fast that by the time I bumped into her, I was sent back; her as well.

"I'm sorry, ma'am," I rubbed my head without looking at her. Damn, where in the world did my head hit, anyway?

"You should watch where you're going," she snapped.

Enraged, I hissed back, "Hey! I said I'm-" I stopped when my eyes took in her.

I'm not going to lie to you; she's one of the prettiest and cutest girls I have ever seen with shoulder-length pink hair tied back into a ponytail. Her coffee eyes (now filled with annoyance) sparkled in the afternoon sun like little Christmas lights. She had the curves in the right places and medium size breasts.

"You're pathetic, you know?" despite her beautiful look, she's quite a jerk at the moment.

I shook my head and snarled back while standing up. I'm a good feet taller than her so she was forced to look up to be able to see my eyes, "I already said sorry, lady! It's not my fault you're deaf."

She started twitching with anger, "Deaf? I can hear a squirrel ten miles away climbing a tree. So if I said you didn't say sorry, than you didn't!"

"I don't have time to argue with you," I waved her off. I took the left side and walked right past her.

My whole body suddenly started twitching with warning. I sidestepped to the side, just in time to see a ball of blue fire whip right past me. I snapped back around to the girl, her fist still raised and smoke rose from her knuckles.

"I wasn't finished yet, punk," she hissed.

She's a fire mage? Damn, this girl just got my attention, I smirked at her.

A huge tick of anger formed on her head, "DON'T MOCK ME WITH THAT STUPID SMIRK OF YOURS! I'M GONNA WIPE IT RIGHT OFF" she raised her fist and blue flames started dancing around her fingers, "YOUR PRETTY BOY FACE!"

She started running towards me, her enflamed fist raised as she named the spell, "Fire Dragon Iron Fist!"

I easily dodge to the side before she came into contact with any part of me. Again, I smirked at her when she tried to counter with a kick. I leapt out of the way and ended on the opposite end of the street, right in front of a closed clothing shop. Luckily, nobody was around at the time, otherwise, I would have some major explaining to do to my parents if news got out that I was fighting a girl for the heck of it.

"Is that all you got?" I continued to mock her, "I expected more from a hot chick like you."

"I'm just getting started," she took a deep breath.

I knew the next attack all too well.

"Fire Dragon Roar!" and a ball of blue flames escaped her mouth.

Again, I sidestepped and ran against the fire on the side.

I didn't expect her to ride the flames.

When her fire fist came into contact with my check, I only gasped as I burst through the doors of the shop I only seconds ago left behind.

I hit a manikin and slipped to the floor in a sitting position, dazed, Shit. She's not all talk after all.

Her perfect figure appeared at the doorway of the broken glass, flames still alive in her hand, "You finished yet, pretty boy?"

I stood up, a little wobbly. I touched my cheek where her fist hit a few heartbeats ago.

"You're still no match for me, Smoky Girl," I smirked again, ignoring the pain. "I'll admit though, you caught me completely off guard."

She twitched in anger again as she pointed her fist at me, "Don't call me "Smoky girl"!"

"Oh? It bothers you?" I raised a teasing eyebrow.

The girl jumped in anger, "Yes!"

"Nonetheless, I like the name, Smoky Girl," I winked at her.

She stopped jumping and bit her lips with… dragon-like fangs?

"You're dying here and now, Pretty Boy!" She yelled before making another mad dash at me.

I reached behind me, clear from her sight. For the first time that afternoon, I used my magic energy.

"I'd like to see you try, Smoky girl."
