A/N: Again, this was written in just a few hours and I ask you to remember that I neither have a beta nor am I a native speaker.

The world in which this story takes place and all the characters you recognize from the X-Men saga do not belong to me (but to Marvel) and no profit (except for the fun of writing it) is being made with this story!

This is my first X-Men story and I have to point out from the very beginning that I only know the movies and have never read a single comic. I also do not own any characters until now. Have fun!!

The story sets in after the last scene with Bobby and Rogue in "The Last Stand".

Marie sat on the bed in her old room. She could not bring herself to unpack her things and properly move in again because she felt strange, as if she did not belong here anymore. Maybe it will feel better once I see Bobby, she thought but deep in her heart she knew that meeting him would only confirm her sentiments. When she heard steps she did not have to lift her eyes to know that it was Bobby standing in the door. Nevertheless she looked at him and stood up when he entered.

"You're back?"

It hurt her that he said it like a question, as if there was something not normal about her returning to the mansion. There she had the confirmation of what she had felt right away: No one expected her here anymore, she was not one of them anymore.

"I'm sorry I... I had to."

Even while she was saying it she wondered why was apologizing to him. Yes, she had done it partly because of him but not for him alone.

"This isn't what I wanted."

"I know. It's what I want."

Then he took her hand and the missing pull startled her for a moment. She looked down at their entwined hands and realized something else missing. She did not feel anything. It was not only the pull but also the emotions that once had been connected to being near Bobby. Now she looked up into his face searching for something there; a sign, something to show her how he felt. He had a strange look on his face, like a mixture of guilt and worry – another confirmation.

"You're not very happy to see me back."

"No, that's not it. It's just that I didn't expect-"

-me ever to return, she completed the sentence in her head but cut in before he could finish it himself.

"It's because of Kitty, isn't it?"

She saw him flinch at the mentioning of the name and knew in an instant that she was right. She actually had known all along, had known when she had sat in the bus, when she had waited in the queue and even when the needle had penetrated her skin. Maybe she had known all along, from the very beginning, that their relationship would always be more friendship, that their feelings for each other were not more than some kind of crush or childish affection.

"Marie, I'm-"

"Rogue."

"What?"

"Rogue, my name is Rogue."

She almost felt bad for doing that to him, for putting him on the other side of the line, especially since she still remembered very clearly her last conversation with Logan. However, she had to set things straight for him and for herself. They were friends, nothing more.

He had Kitty and she had-
