Tris Pov.
"Get up Tris, the initiates are coming soon!"
I groan and stuff my head under a pillow. I knew the initiates were coming. I guess I should be excited, since it's my first year as an instructor, but for some reason, I don't fell all excited.
I hear Tobias's footsteps and I feel myself lifted into the air. Air whooshes through my legs and Tobias plops me back on the bed. "Get up sleepy head."
"Ok, I'm awake." I get up and shower quickly. When I come back, I see Tobias has already left. I look around our apartment room and sigh. The bed is unmade, there are clothes all over the ground and last night's dishes haven't been washed. My family would disapprove.
I shake my head. I don't care what they think. I'm Dauntless. I hurry out of the room.
When I get to the net where the initiates will drop, I see Christina, Uriah and Tobias have already lined up in preparation for the initiate's landing. I walk up to Tobias and kiss him.
"Ew, guys, are you going to be so public infront of the initiates?" Christina asks.
I shrug. "I don't care."
"Well, how about this. You two stay as distant as possible from each other. See how long it takes for the initiates to figure out you're together." Christina says.
"And?" Tobias asks.
"If it takes less then fifteen days, both of you have to go shopping with me once a week for a month. If it takes more then fifteen days, I won't complain to you about your affection ever again. Deal?"
I look up at Tobias. "Sure. Why not?"
"Ok then." Christina claps her hands.
"Hey Tris, What name are you going by?" Uriah asks.
"Six." I say firmly.
Tobias smiles. "Four and Six. I like that."
"The initiates are on the roof." Christina says.
I let go of Tobias-Four's hand and stand next to Christina. After a while, a girl drops into the net. Her eyes are wide and her hands shake. She's from Amity. I take her arm and pull her of the net. Once she's off, I let go of her arm.
"What's your name?" I hear Four say.
"Le-Leah."
"First Jumper-Leah!" I shout.
After thirty minutes, all initiates have jumped. There are a total of twenty initiates. Eleven transfers and nine Dauntless-borns.
I let Four lead the way through the hallways. I stay at the back, watching the transfers. Two are from amity, five from candor and four from Erudite.
One, boy, I think named Garret, keeps looking at me. I hate the look in his eyes. He looks like a mini Peter.
"My name is Four and that is Six." I hear Four say.
"Six and four? Those are stupid names."
My head whips up and I narrow my eyes. I storm up to the girl who spoke out.
"What's your name?" I ask in a quiet voice.
"I-, Arianna." She sqeaks.
"Well, Arianna, if I were you, I'd learn to keep your big mouth shut around instructors."
She says something but I ignore her. I walk up to Four and almost take his hand but stop, remembering the bet I made with Christina.
At the end of the day, I'm exhausted. Just staying away from Four was enough to zap all my energy. Once were away from the initiates, he comes up and kisses me.
I relax, letting myself drift away.
"Tris. I have a surprise for you."
