Ianto's snores were the only thing that broke the silence. Jack stared up into the ceiling, biting his lip.
Ianto was so perfect. He was kind and agreeable and soft and caring. Jack loved him, he did, but there was something missing. He didn't feel as much as he did before.
Oh, whom was he kidding? He hadn't felt that way since her. Since Gwen.
But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's 2am and I'm cursing your name
You're so in love that you act insane
And thars the way I loved you
"You shouldn't die so bloody much, Jack! If you were as good as you say you are, you wouldn't die ever!"
Jack glared at her.
"You're the one who shoved me in front of a Weevil!"
Gwen rolled her eyes.
"Oh, so I was supposed to shove, say, Owen in front of a Weevil?" Jack sighed in exasperation.
"NO! But you shouldn't treat me any different then anyone else!"
Gwen looked furious. She started to say something, but then just spun around and stomped out of the Hub and into the pouring rain.
Jack deflated and trailed after her, feeling guilty.
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kin of rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you
He saw Gwen huddled under a street lamp, looking miserable. He hurried over to her, his great coat sweeping out behind him.
Gwen jumped when Jack cradled her, but melted against his chest.
"I'm sorry," she said softly.
"It's okay. You were just looking out for a teammates."
He pressed his lips sweetly to hers as the rain beat down around them.
He can't see the smile I'm fakingAnd my heart's not breaking
Cause I'm not feeling anything at all
And you were wild and crazy
Just so frustrating, intoxicating
Complicated, got away by some mistake and now
Ianto was so damn agreeable. He didn't notice Jack's slightly forced smile or the way Jack seemed to particularly enjoy it when it was raining. Ianto didn't notice that Jack seemed to enjoy it when Gwen fought with anyone, or that Jack tried to start a fight.
Jack sort of wished he would.
But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's 2am and I'm cursing your name
You're so in love that you act insane
And that's the way I loved you
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kind of rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you
Jack sat up and wiped his eyes. He had made his decision.
"YOU'VE GOT TO STOP PROTECTING ME, JACK! I WORK FOR BLOODY TORCHWOOD!"
Jack looked like he'd explode.
"WELL, SORRY FOR PROTECTING YOU!"
Gwen glared at him.
"I DON'T NEED PROTECTING!"
With one last look of death, Gwen spun around and stomped from the Hub.
Jack sighed and followed her out. The rain soaked him through almost instantly.
"Gwen? Gwen, I'm sorry. I'm just worried about you." Gwen turned and smiled at him.
"Sorry for yelling. But I can take care of myself." Jack nodded quickly.
"I know, I know. I just get worried."
They kissed softly in the rain.
