Rogue walked down the corridor alone.

She felt empty inside.

She'd just ended it with Bobby.

x

It just wasn't working.

She'd taken the cure, but her heart just wasn't in it anymore.

She couldn't love someone who couldn't understand her.

She'd tried to make it work, she'd ignored his flirtation with Kitty.

Written it off as being friendly.

But she knew it wasn't, deep down she knew.

She always did.

x

She continued down the corridor staring at the carpet, wishing the tears would come.

To bring some relief to feeling of hopelessness she felt.

She was now a human living in a mansion full of mutants.

Nothing had changed really, Rogue was always on the outside, even when she had powers.

Now without them, she was just a cause of worry and concern.

Rogue couldn't be expected to fight, to be able to protect herself.

She was a glorified baby sitter now.

x

Rogue walked out the mansion door, to stand at the steps.

She looked out over the grounds, and heard to roar of a motorbike.

Finally Logan was back.

Her beacon of hope in her despair.

She ran forward as the helmet clad figure brought the bike to a stop in the circle driveway.

Rogue hugged him as he got off the bike.

x

He felt different, thinner.

Rogue stepped back, letting go.

That wasn't Logan's bike or Logan.

"This be a warm welcome", the man remarked as he took off the helmet that concealed his face.

He was handsome, she could see that despite the sunglasses he wore.

"Ah'm sorry, ah thought you were someone else", Rogue explained as a blush crept to her cheeks.

"A southern gal, I'm Remy Lebeau", he said as he held out his hand for hers.

"Rogue", she replied softly as she let her hand rest gently in his, as he gently kissed the top of it.

Rogue could feel her heart beat increase, then she felt something she'd not been expecting.

Remy pulled his lips away from her hand as he felt the pull.

Rogue grabbed her hand back, and just stared at it her face blank.

"Whats wrong chere?" Remy asked unaware of what he'd felt.

Rogue clenched and unclenched her hand staring.

x

A memory new to her gave her an idea.

She slipped her hand into Remy's inner jacket pocket and pulled out a playing card from the deck within.

She held it between her index and middle fingers and concentrated.

Remy watched as Rogue charged the card till its brightness was almost blinding.

She slowly released her hold on the charge, the card returning to its usually colorings.

The card fell to the ground as Rogue let it go.

She reached her hands to hold her heads, as she gently fell to her knees on the gravel.

A sob rang out, as she realized her worse fear.

x

There was no cure.
